will MIDP2.0 and S60 2.0 become a big hit next year?

do you think MIDP2.0 and S60 2.0 will become a big hit next year? how long would these new standards become popular?

will there a large amount of applications take advantages of these new standards? or developers will continue to focus on MIDP1.0 and S60 1.x, so as to provide compatibility to existing phones? what do you think?

the real question behind is that, is MIDP2.0 and S60 2.0 a must have?

Most new devices that have J2ME support next year, are likely to be based on MIDP 2.0. I would say it is pretty much a guaranteed hit (with probably virtually all mid- and high-end phones having J2ME and presumably also a good number of the so called low-end phones, too).

I'm also probably right, if I guess that most new Series 60 models next year, will also be based on Series 60 2.0.

And if you consider Series 60 a hit already now, with only two shipping devices from one manufacturer, then next year will be even bigger as Nokia's Series 60 licensees really start to impact the market alongside whatever Nokia will have.

In any case, time will tell.

it is really difficult to tell

we have the first xHTML phone a year ago, but xHTML WAP is still far from popular

there are more S60 1.x phone than 2.0 phone, we still have N-gage and SX1 to come in short future

i think all developers are watching this 6600 carefully, if 6600 become very popular in a short time, this definitly will help promoting the new standards. but if the respond to 6600 is not so good, developers will not shift to new standards in a short time
