MEN Behaving Badly

Pots and kettles mean nothing to the Microsoft fangirl site that took great joy in pointing out this article that tells of how Motorola, Ericsson and Nokia (MEN) are allegedly monopolising the Mobile Phone market and the standards therein - and there was me thinking that Microsoft wouldn't know what a monopoly if it hit them in the face - seems that when it's someone else who's having the profits, Microsoft's eyes are wonderfully healed.

This really is a scathing attack on MEN, insisting that it is pushing out competition and stiffling innovation - accusations which have, in the past, been the exclusive lot for Microsoft.

I doubt that there's a whole lot of truth in this, especially since manufacturers and developers are running away from Microsoft and to MEN (in particular Nokia, though SonyEricsson can be said to be the most innovative mobile phone manufacturer currently on tyhis planet).

The bottom line? I'd rather trust the MEN than the BOYS and this sound to me like more of the usual Microsoft effort to talk down other people's innovation in order to make its own mediocrity look better.

forget post and kettles it's just plain rubbish !

"MEN, along with Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks, and Siemens (a far less catchy acronym), are effectively the gatekeepers for new technology in the wireless industry. MEN's position is strengthened by its global reach: Motorola, Ericsson, and Nokia are based in the United States, Sweden, and Finland, respectively; all three sell into worldwide markets."

So what we are saying is that :

Motorola, SonyEricsson, and Nokia, Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks, and Siemens, from United States, Sweden, and Finland, Germany and Japan(Sony)

between them have got a monopoly. Thats 5 companys and 4 countries. Strange kind of monopoly.
