How do you keep a metal stylus firmly on the side of the phone?

The plastic one has to flex a little to grip the hook, and effectively unlocks itself when you push it -- would have thought that a metal one would be either a loose or a very tight fit curvature?

Or do you get enough flexion from the case wall?

Very good question. I think too there would be a problem with a metal stylus - and also it would ad a bit more to the weight. But it looks really cool.

Hi Guys,
Wow.....I didn't realise sooo many people would be interested....Me..I just like to tweak my gadgets a bit...and for me, the P800 stylus felt too light..!

To answer a number of questions....or comments that people have said... it's made out of 9ct gold, basically becuase it is a bit harder than 18ct (although would have been easier to make....!).. It's hand made (by hammer and polisher) so it has a sort of personal touch to it... takes about 2 hours...to finish.. :turn-l:

I didn't really make it to start a profit run (no doubt someone out there will produce a comercial version real soon...!) But...if people are interested, I will see how much it will cost to make a couple more?? or if a commercial version is way too expensive then I will see how much it would cost... in 9ct or 18ct gold, white gold or silver... if people are interested..

Another question was about the metal damaging the P800 stylus holder (which is plastic) and yes that was a problem. Basically, if you look at the attached picture, the stylus is hammered out to be thick at the contact end (where you want good weight) and thin at the back end, the metal forms a subtle springy feeling and then the hole that I drilled out has too be perfectly smooth and shaped exactly as SE made the original so as to avoid damage to the plastic P800 retainer clip. When you offer the stylus up to the P800 it almost fits perfectly without pressure, you then provide a little bit of pressure and it slides onto the retaining clip as the normal plastic one does, the smoothness of the hole ensures that the retaining clip is not damaged. This took some time to get right as I didn't want to damage my baby!!

Anyway guys, I'm pleased that I brought a smile to some of you, and ya never know, I might be able to make a few more for some of you.....will keep you posted...!!

Cheers,
Simon. 8)

Way coooollll...... I had an idea similar to this, but with a twist. I talked to some machinist at a mold shop at my business and talked to them about making a glow in the dark on for me.. I got the idea after I dropped my stylus on the dirty floors of a dark movie theater. You have to use the light illuminating from the P800 screen in order to see the stylus. Anywho, I was told that the process wouldn't be expensive because it wouldn't require much material. Moreover, it was a very easy mold to replicate. I didn't think it was worth pursuing till I saw that pic.. I'll post results when I get one done.

Simon

If I sent you a silver ring, large thumb ring that I damaged coming off my bike (CBR600 before anyone asks if it was my push bike!) could you make me one?

It has runes (nordic/viking writing) on the surface and if the imprint of some of these could be preserved or replicated that would be even better!

I'd contact you privately to set a price.

@anixon,

Hmm..I couldn't guarantee that I would be able to keep the runes intact (as you probably read - I hammer out the metal) but if their deep enough it should be OK....

Basically, as long as the ring is big enough (need to measure around the circumference - needs to be at least 6.5cm), thick enough (7mm wide by something like 2-3mm thick) then I don't think it would be a problem....hmmm could be quite nice actually...depends on the damage it has??

Anyway, PM me and we'll set something up.....

Cheers,
Simon
