I suppose they thought you would open up your communicator and type it
on the keyboard a lot faster
Now why they didnt backlight the key board ? thats a question I would like answered ...

Keyboard Backlight
The Keyboard does not need a backlight, as when you open phone up, at night, you can still see the keyboard from the light from the LCD screen.
Plus this method means less drain on the battery.
Just my 2pence worth!

nokia always makes it a point that not all features are included on a nokia phone (at least the most common features we expect)..
like the 9210 can't receive a picture message (good for 9210i), a top of the line phone??
like the 8910 with all advance features but cannot send long messages
like the 7650 which doesnt support bluetooth headset and no MMC
like the 92xx w/c doesnt support T9 (as this topic suggests)
this may be a strategy... at least they target to a whole lot of variety of end consumers
