Software for GPS module

hi all

just wanted to ask. i was thinking of buying the GPS module for the 9210, but i have recently seen on other posts that there is new updated maps provided buy TomTom's.

I just wanted to know if i purchase the GPS module would i be getting the the new updated maps or would they still be the old maps.

i had to ask because no one seems to know anything about the module, i've even tried nokia themshelves and they have no idea.

thank you

Good question. I bought the module when it first came out. The main road near my house does not exist on the map as it was not built at the time the map was made. I would also like to try using it with OPL but one thing at a time...

I got mine from Exprtech. Yes I know it was a lot of money for something so small but it is a great bit of kit. There is another version of the Nokia GPS unit out there but it uses its own battery

you will get co-ordinates, but no maps. the only maps supported with the Nokia GPS are those from TomTom. So USA, Europe and thats it. They will be expanding their list but it will be some time. But if there is another company doing maps that can support the GPS module, then it should work, but I don't think there is anyone else.

I've bought stuff (including LAM-1) from Expansys and found then to be very competitive and service has been good. I imagine that Nokia are controlling the price pretty well. Also Euro has gone up vs £ sterling since prices were set, so Europe likely to be more expensive. $ has fallen, but I suspect that units supplied in the US won't come with maps for Europe - you would also have to pay import duty and VAT on the US price.

Hooray! I just found the PDF file for the control of the LAM-1 module.
I can think of lots of project with it now that I have got sound working in OPL at last. When you pay £230 for something, you might at well make the most of it. My phone will now be able to shout at me when I aproach LPG stations so I dont forget to fill up. Or maybe a pub radar.. :-?

WOW . so is there any chance of putting a link up or did you find that with the LAM module.

i've managed to order it from directmobiles (£220, not bad if i may say so myself) . hopefully i should be getting it before i make a visit to Blackpool and birmingham.

Sorry, are you able to have voice output with the Nokia GPS? What does the link or software you have, actually do?

Many Thanks

Nick

The link is only a PDF file that shows you how to comunicate to the GPS with software that you have written yourself. No there is no software written for the Comunicator that has voice output...yet
