Terminal program, serial connection over Bluetooth

Hello everybody,

I bought a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic a few months ago.

I am looking for a terminal program that I can install on my Nokia 5800 XM.
This terminal program should act as the console of an embedded computer
using the Bluetooth connection to emulate a serial connection
between the NOKIA and the embedded computer.

Explaining a bit more:
- I have an embedded computer that controls some motors,
- this computer has a serial port that acts as its console, where I have
plugged a Bluetooth-serial adapter (no need to install any additional driver
in the embedded computer).
- I run the Windows hyperterminal program in my desktop/laptop computer
with an standard Bluetooth adapter (that creates a virtual serial port)
to connect it to the serial console port of the embedded computer.
- Therefore I get a console window on my desktop such that I can send
commands to and get responses from the embedded computer operating
- The Bluetooth connection simply acts as a wireless serial cable and
connects the virtual serial port of my desktop computer (that is seen
by the hyperterminal program) to the serial port of the embedded computer.

Now I want to run some terminal program (that I could not find) on my Nokia
5800 XM that will enable me to get a console window on it to communicate
via its Bluetooth adapter with the serial port of the embedded computer.

Many years ago I managed to do that exactly that using a PalmOne
Tungsten T3 (with its built-in Bluetooth) and the ptelnet program
Now I have a much more powerful plataform and I am having difficulties to
do the same thing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Unhappy Answer from Nokia USA support

Hi there,

This was the answer from the Nokia USA Support (Nokia Care Contact Center)
to my request for info:

================================================== ===============
"In response to your inquiry about the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, we would like
to inform you that there is unavailable terminal program that you can install
on this device. We would like to let you know that the one of the main use
of Bluetooth connection on your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is for transferring/synchronizing
files from and to your computer such as multimedia files, contacts, and calendar entries.

We suggest that you check on third party programs for the availability of terminal program
that you need to emulate connection between your phone to the embedded computer."
================================================== ===============

I would like to stress that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic User Guide,
under "Bluetooth connectivity" states:
"This device is compliant with Bluetooth Specification 2.0 + EDR supporting
the following profiles: advanced audio distribution, ..., serial port, and
SIM access."

From that, I am guessing that the 5800 XM Bluetooth stack implements
the Serial Port Profile (SPP), and apparently, it would be easy for Nokia
to implement a simple terminal program, if they wished to do that.

Does anyone know where I can find a third-part terminal program that
emulates a serial port over Bluetooth for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic??
I have searched for it on the Internet. I could find a lot of programs
but not this one. Maybe I am looking at the wrong places...

I have already read:
"How to use Bluetooth on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic"
