symbian 3 running S30 APPLICATIONS

I presently own a E72 running 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (S60 3.2.3)Symbian OS version 9.3

I need a pennytel mobile application for my phone that provides auto pilot/call card dialling and sms , in turn providing very cheap phone calls

The PT application is designed with Java™ MIDP 2.0 and works fine on my E72.S60
I am looking at purchase of an E7-000 that uses Symbian^3 OS and Java MIDP 2.1.
No one is able to tell me if the PT application will work in the E7 phone and am hopeful someone in this forum may be of assistance.

I consider it imperative that my new phone uses this application as manual operation of VOIP calls etc to keep run costs down for me is too painful.

thanks in advance.

There are no "S30" applications. Nokias "Series 30" phones do not support any kind of user-installable applications. Perhaps you're thinking of "Series 40" (S40) phones, which do support Java (Java ME, J2ME, ME = Micro Edition) applications (MIDlets) distributed as .jar files.

Anyway, Symbian^3 based phones do support JME (MIDP/CLDC), and MIDP 2.1 based devices should run MIDP 2.0 based apps just fine.

To be sure, either you or someone else has to test/try the app on the phone models you're interested in. A good idea might be to contact the original app developer, and ask them whether they've tested the app (or perhaps they have a newer version, too).

You might also be able to test it yourself remotely using Forum Nokia's Remote Device Access (RDA) service: http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/R...device_access/

s60 apps on Symbian^3 OS

Firstly.
typo on the header.
S60 is what the e71 runs, sorry but not s30.
Info following my thread is correct.
N/A has a good point regards testing but unfortunately the PT application has since been stopped regards continued development via the original 3rd party some 2 years ago. (took some time to track originator down, but unfortunately is not intereseted in further developement due to financial issues I'm told?)
The RDA process sounds very appealing and will follow up asap.
thank you and continue to invite comment.
Some people may already be wishing to try this application on their E7?

If you send me the application, I could try it out on the N8.
If it works on N8 then you can be 99.9% sure it'll work on E7

thank you very much for the offer Montyn95.
The link is here
http://s60.pennytel.com.au/
For some reason I don't understand, the only way it will load on the E72 is to use this download link to your phone.
THe file is *.sis but does not get seen via the Nokia PC Suite.
All going well it should ask if you wish to instal pennytel mobile version 1.0.6.
I look forward to hearing how you go !
thanks again.
