Nokia N86

Well, I've finally got round to playing with the camera after my replacement arrived after what seemed like a LONG wait. This is a great phone. I didnt even know that Nokia had implemented a message reader into it's devices

The camera in low light conditions has sealed the deal for me here. Such a shame that the N97 has overshadowed it's release...

Well I managed to drain the battery in a day and a half Impressed with this device but i have a few small problems

1. The Slider is the same as the N95 when closed. After quite a bit of use it has loosened slightly. It's not terrible, as Ive checked my N95 slider and it has exactly the same amount of "give", only the N86's is more noticeable due to the heavier materials used. It does give a slight "rattle". It's probably nothing really but may be unnerving to those who have never had a dual slide before, and considering my N95 had this for nigh on 2 years whilst having a firm and steady opening slide this gripe may be unnecessary.

2. The camera sometimes surprises you with it's quality, in that one minute you're taking stunning 8mp photos and then you're taking blurry, out of focus ones. You have to use some good old fashioned photo taking knowledge. Also, the flash does indeed have some blue tints, but it's hardly noticeable. Bring on the future firmware updates

3. Email. I only noticed after a couple of days that the email software was checking every couple of minutes for new mail. (I was using an old orange email address that I only really use to upload photos while out and about). It took some searching before I found the option to keep it switched off!

4. The display obviously is hard to read in direct sunlight and I'm not sure OLED will be seen more on Nokia phones in the future.

Talking

And what's with the menu button?? It glows every few seconds while the device is idle, like a slow heartbeat.

Mine doesn't glow every few seconds. But the annoying things that I found is that the Camera Shutter button is really hard to press

Maybe it's something to do with the power saver?

Camera button was a little stiff, but not really that bad.

The menu glowing is called standby breathing, you can turn it off in the personalisation settings under the notification lights. My slider is only wobbly when closed,i guess ill have to live with the fact that nokia cant make sliders like SE.

I dont think it's the case that Nokia can't make sliders like SE, it's more a case of the dual slide design is a flawed one.

Thanks for the info on the standby breathing, but I think I'll keep it on as I like it, and it doesn't attract much attention.

Smile Camera Button

Camera button feeling hard , can be due to it's function , half way down : Focussing , full down : Capture . It is sometimes "hard" to capture in one stroke .

Yes, Mine is too. But it's not bad at all.

I've just had a second replacement, and am treating it as gently as I can (to match Steve's own use ) After about 2 hours and about 10 slides, there is a definite increase in play, but it is microscopic. I have come to terms with it though, and realise that any slide loosens slightly after use. I think I've been too concerned about it though. The metal parts and glass definitely make this natural loosening more noticeable. Alas the startup freeze is still there like my last device. I'm going to bite the bullet and wait for a firmware fix for this. I may have been nitpicking too much about the design, but I think I was right to ask for another swap.

After using my trusty N95 for a few days again, I appreciated just how stable the launch firmware of the N86's is compared to V.10 of the N95's!

I had the N86 for almost 3 weeks now. It was OK at the beginning but now I have noticed it is not connecting on the 3G network while it is on dual mode. I tried to force it using UMTS but there was no network. My wife's E66 is connecting using 3G with same phone company. Can some one help me what to do? Is hard resetting can solve the problem?

N86: problems with set-uo of Nokia mail

Dear all,
Could anyone help pls ?
Have just upgraded n95-8go to N86.
Nokia mail was fine on the old one, but on the new n86 my settings seem "corrupted" in some way as I cannot overide / delete accounts, etc.
I have 2 mail boxes on my account: a hotmail and a business one. Some of the problems I have:
- Hotmail set-up shows as "IMAP"
- I have entered passwords in set-up, but would always ask for it when syncing and would not sybc anyway
- cannot delete my hotmail account from N86
- tried to download nomia mail from Nokia: no success

I have looged on my account on the nokia mail web site, to ensure my settings are correct, and they are.
Are there any bugs or is this me?

Any help from mail specialists would be greatly appreciated.
