New: Smartner Duality Always-On Mail

Smartner have announced the availability of their corporate aimed always on (push) e-mail solution. Smartner Duality Always-On Mail brings all the key components that users are familiar with when using Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes at their desktop and pushes them, over the air, to their PDA or Smartphone.

Author Notes from Handango:

  • Duality Always-On Mail enables you to manage your email via your Sony Ericsson Smartphone, in real-time, wherever you may be.
  • View messages in real-time, receive data on Sony Ericsson Smartphone and desktop simultaneously
  • Display read/unread status, sender, subject and received date
  • Sort mail list by sender or received date
  • Delete, reply to sender, reply to all, or forward a message
  • All actions mirrored to desktop view in real-time, over the air
  • Display and edit original message on replying or forwarding
  • Apply basic text edit clipboard operations (cut, copy and paste)
  • Receive attachments in native format, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF.
  • View, save, edit and send attachments as if at a desktop

  • Truncated text and attachments rapidly downloaded, when requested, in the background

Duality Always-On Mail is as simple as switching the devices on. The software handles all communication issues automatically.

Its nasty nasty nasty stuff this duality.

That line "No requirement for information security team or IT manager involvement " , might as well say "Shh, you can install this, break all your email policy rules and you dont have to tell anyone".

For those wondering its not Blackberry, its nothing like it. A Blackberry setup is a server which monitors the Notes named network (for lotus notes) and sends out a copy of the mail. This duality is a desktop client that just monitors your PC for incoming mail, so your PC needs to be on.

Could be worse, could be Blackberry My view. Get over to

They offer a managed OneBridge setup. All the features of Blackberry but you need f**k all installed on your servers. Its also Global. Which BB isnt. Cheap, which BB isnt.

For your POP3 mail, its great and cheap. For corporate. Seriously, dont think about installing it without speaking to your IT guys first.

An IT guy who is just waiting for a user to try this.

I believe they do also have an Enterprise Edition for IT-function managed installations, don't they?

yup, with BB you pay your monthly fee and they give you the server CD and say "thats it, on your own". With the reply wireless jobby you pay a smaller montly fee but thats it. They host everything so if the server dies, not your worry.
