What all that means is the 9500 Communicator confirms to all the compatibility requirements by the Wi-Fi Alliance, so any connection problems you may have are entirely your own fault, because the phone is fine.

WI-FI excellent, routing picky. OK if you have latest kit.

Ewan,

The WI-FI connction is excellent in itself but a number of people have already discovered that onward connection is not backwards compatible and only works on certain kit.

Do you know what protocols the 9500 is using?

I was assuming TCP/IP but, although I can log on to my router via wireless, the 9500 fails to download webpages via my (fully working) ADSL connection. It can be "seen" on my LAN, but gets no hostname from the router. A hostname CANNOT be configured within the 9500. I have manually added its IP address to the DNS table and it is in the ARP table.

The web browser must be working as it can download the Web-interface pages from my router.

A Toshiba Portege 3500 Tablet PC negociated the whole process painlessly and quickly.

What is missing in the Nokia 9500 to cause these problems?

With no technical explanation as yet, Nokia support have told me it only has a "simple" WI-FI networking capability and cannot negociate my system, and suggest I go out and buy an INTEGRATED WI-FI access point hub router. Why should I do this, and do I really have to?

Thanks, if you have time to respond!

Dave

Short answer is mine works as advertised with my Linksys router at home so I dunno. Wi-Fi is a mystery to me so if it works I don;t fiddle with it.
