I think you're right about the N86, it's a good little underrated device that will probable win people over when it is more widely available (and cheaper) on contract.

I like the way that Nokia filters down the best features of it's N series to it's cheaper brands and the 6 series has certainly benefitted from this.

What's next for this form factor though? I can't see Nokia making many more dual sliders to be honest.

What I would like to see is perhaps a spiritual successor to the N93i, with a qwerty keyboard, 8mp/12mp camera and HD video (imagine one of these with optical zoom!) and a sort of N96/N97 mix, with no qwerty, a large touchscreen interface, a kickstand and support for just about every video format.

Hi

You have forget to mention about the Camera(though you have covered it in separte blog about this) Panoromic mode in camera is new on N86 which is not there on N95

I think NOKIA has not given much attention to this device bcoz of N97

But from your post, it obvious people who are looking for an update to N95, will go for it

Come on NOKIA Do keep some emphasis on this phone too... It may rock evenlly compared to N97

N95 still works

Whatever people may say against the N95 Classic, I still commend it as the Best in both functionality and usability. I understand that new models are now out making the N95 an "old" phone. But this baby can still do the Job as far as phones would go. Sure, it no longer has the technology that newer models have, but guess what; it can still function as a Phone and a Mobile computer. I am an iPhone user now, but there are still alot of features that are missing on this phone that the N95 has. And frankly, I am willing to dump my Apple-branded unit for my Old N95 anytime!

I respect those who prefer and purchased new models, but like it or not, the N95 has already made a landmark in the mobile world in terms of functionality and usability.

Ram

Does the N86 really have 128 MB of RAM? I've read at nokiausa.com it has only 74 MB.

http://www.nokiausa.com/find-product...specifications

How can this be? In GSM Arena (and many other places) the specs are saying it has 128 MB, just like the N95 8Gb.

Does anybody know for sure how much RAM does it have? Or maybe if it depends on the device's revision or something?

Thanks.

must depend on the game then- in two years of playing games on my N95/8Gb I have never touched the media keys for a game. And only slightly more often for media. :-)

N95 is still the King

During a 4 hour layover at London Heathrow terminal 5 last Sunday, I got a chance to play with the N86. This phone has been the only one lighting me up for possible replacement of my 2.5 year old trusty N95, in fact I had gone so far as to preorder a N86 NAM.

Ive now cancelled my preorder and intend to keep my N95 until Nokia brings up a proper successor.

Ill admit that the interface was a little faster on the N86 than my N95 and it has a 3MP better camera. Other than that nothing really has changed. The N95s smooth front panel buttons are much nicer to touch and push than the small pins on the front of the N86. For me those pin-buttons killed the interest in the phone, as Im simply not interested in spending $500 on having my fingers hurt every time I pull up my phone.

Nokia SIP client

Please confirm that N86 has Nokia internet calling client / SIP client as N95 does.

Huh?

Is this review serious??? I own both these phones and the remark "Bigger sensor, bigger (variable) aperture, dual LED flash, 8 megapixel resolution, better photos in all light conditions" is, simply stated, FALSE!.... put these two phone side by side and the the N95 BLOWS away the N86 for low light capture (no flash).... maybe its just my version (11.043) but quite frankly is AWEFUL!!!

... not to mention... why did they ditch the idea of a progress bar while sending email?.. I hope they update firmware on the US RM-485 soon!
