Google Maps gets minor bump to v4.1.1

Probably a minor bug-fix update (unless eagle-eyed readers can spot something I haven't), but note that Google Maps for Symbian just got an small bump from v4.1.0 to v4.1.1. As usual, grab it from m.google.com. Google Maps for Android also got a 4.1.1 update a couple of weeks ago, and this was given a big boost by a server-side switch-on of real time route instructions and voice navigation. Here's hoping we're just a few days away from the same being true of Symbian/S60?

Read on in the full article.

GMaps Nav on Symbian?

Nah, why would they want to do that, when OVI Maps is free, can be stored locally, and just works?

Nokie E75

Hi,

Say that while owning a Nokia E75. No free Ovi maps, while E71 which is older has.
Remember, Ovi Maps are free for a few people. Others rely on Google Maps.

Best regards

I would go for google maps on my e71 if it had voice guide navigation because ovi maps is a pain in the ass if you want to search for the adress off a company. Also any smal misty won't be interpreted like google maps does.

POI in Ovi Maps isn't as good, but anyone who thinks that Google Maps can replace Ovi Maps is, well, an idiot. With or without free navigation.

Everything else works as it should.

Google maps on android

I would expect voice guidance on Symbian as it is used on the Android version. I also wish Ovi maps was free for the e63 as apart from the lack of internal GPS it isn't that different from the

The voice navigation is a bit irritating because it uses the speech synth and some of the pronunciation is a bit strange (this is very noticeable as it uses road names as well as the A, B, C or M reference).

Then again some of the pronunciations of place names over here are are more than slightly strange anyway so I will forgive google.

I still wish maps could be downloaded to SD card though, but for the price point I can cope

Smile Nokia + G Maps

I don't think these apps should be seen as opposites . They both have their merits and also are additional .
I have them both installed .
GMaps is nice for route planning . Has satelite maps . Street view . Fast gps fix . Good local information . But needs data connection . Nice when on WiFi .
I suppose the advantages of Ovi Maps are known .

I miss the days when I could save an address in Google Maps, and it would get added to my handset locations/favorites. Then I could just pull it up in Ovi Maps, but the two services don't overlap anymore.
