N73 vs. E50 - help me choose.

Hi,

I am pretty much settled on going Nokia for my next phone. The WM5 choices just look to cheap to me (too fragile, etc) and Symbian looks the better interface.

I have a Nokia 6200 now. I like it but outlook sync is flawed, it is dated, and is really just a phone (no convergance)

It looks like the N73 may be the best choice in terms of features, but (and it is a big but), it looks from what I read, to have a lot of bugs still, and the build quality seems less than other Nokias (reports of loose camera sliders, etc.)

So folks - how bad is it, really???

Here is what i am looking for, in order of importance:
  1. Solid Phone with all 4 bands (I use 850 in US, and travel to Asia)
  2. Small size (pockeable)
  3. Syncs to outlook PROPERLY
  4. Ability to read E-books
  5. Music / MP3
  6. Camera - But no camera is better than a poor camera

Note - I do go places that do not allow a camera phone occasionally, but can deal with that as long as the camera in the phone is good enough to make it worth the hassle - if not, i'd just as soon have NO camera (i.e. the no camera vresion of the E50...)

I have read reviews all over and the 2 phones I am considering are:
E50 (+ small, low cost; - 1.3 MP, smaller screen)
N73 (+ best camera, 2.4" screen; - price, buggy)

so it really comes down to how much better the camera of the N73 is, and how much difference the extra 1/3 in of screen size makes in book reading as comparted to how buggy it is, with the price as a tie breaker.

So you N73 folks - what do you think here?

TIA,

Rick

It seems that E61/E62 would be proper to you, but is a little bit bigger. Anyway, I would choose the N73 from your options.

Between those two, if money is not problem, easy choice, N73

ratza - my carrier offers the E62 subsidized (@ $150) so i am familiar. However, it really is bigger than I prefer.

both of you say easy - N73. But is it stable now? I read a lot about issues. Have they been worked out with the latest ROM upgrades? I don't want a phone that frequently re-boots when a call comes in - My boss's Treo does that and it's enough to drive him (and me) crazy... If not for that I would agree with you guys, and the $100 - $150 difference is not a deal breaker in the grand scheme of things since I spend $500 a year on service anyway.

It improves, but still have some issues... It rejects my 2Gb card, no brand one. I go try a Sandisk Ultra to see if is from the card or from the phone. Also, some reboots, and bluetooth still have drops. But all new Symbian phones are always the same. If you want one, more stable, go for N70.

I have a N70, it is stable, but it's a little slower than 6680, even though it has three times the 6680's RAM. Even my brother's 6630 is faster than mine and I have less apps than he has. Anyway, maybe the N73 restarts some times - this happens mainly when running out of RAM - but if you keep your apps colsed, this won't be a problem.

I am pretty impressed by the general stability of N73 with the latest firmware installed now. I also use a SandiskUltra 2Gb. Flawlessly.

Stability with Bluetooth is fantastic. I frequently make phonecalls of more than an hour in my car connected to the Nokia CK7W Bluetooth carkit. At the same time it is also connected to the BlueTooth Emtac GPS receiver. It NEVER drops the connection to either of the BT devices. Also, TomTom flawlessly works in the background while making a phone call and while also accessing my calendar (Papyrus) at the same time.

I think stability issues that are left mainly relate to camera work.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia E70: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6560/1630; en; U; ssr))

N73 is a better choice.
software probs can be resolved by newer firmware updates.
