Is the (non-8gb) N95 practically obsolete?

Is it just me or is a firmware update long overdue?
With so many annoying issues (like the keypress) still a bug and an urgent need for improvements (like for example a longer battery life through better allocation of resources) I would think a firmware update to the n95 necessary. But Nokia, obviously, doesn't. Is the (non-8gb) N95 now practically obsolete?

Im hoping the next firmware update for the N95 contains dynamic paging so it will free up more ram.

If you read around the web there are rumors that a new fw update is in the works.

I hope NOKIA does the right thing and add the new mediamenu, N-gage and Music Store access as well as demand paging like in the N95-8GB

Only time will tell...

I would think, since the new one is basically the same, they will develop firmware for both at the same time and just customise it for the different models

It's not really in Nokia's best interests to abandon the N95-1; it's still selling right now, for instance, and is likely to be so for the remainder of the year at least. But also, Nokia are surely aware that most users will be on contract and only the most ardent phone enthusiasts will buy a SIM-free phone that's pretty similar to that they already have - the upgrader market exists, but it's really very small. A better plan is to continue to support the N95-1 until most people's contracts are running up, so they're happy with Nokia and choose another Nokia phone. The similarity with the N95 8GB is, as mentioned, another incentive to carry on supporting the N95-1.

Very sensible point, well made.

I agree with you on this one. The N95-1 may have a number of issues, but these may be fixed by firmware upgrades. Even the concerns with the battery life might fade into the background as the owners begin to use their N95-1's as regular phones after the novelty has worn off.

The N95 8gb may be the flashier model to date, but it's storage is limited to 8gb, whereas the N95-1 can be expanded depending on the availability of larger micro-SD cards on the market. Even with the release of the N95-3, which is a North American model, whose availability may be limited to North America only. In contrast, the N95-1 is marketted globally.

I just wish the onboard memory could be given to the ram table...... I still get either gallery, web or total OS crashes allmost daily. I tried to make a movie using the onboard editor and the maximum was 20mb worth of media to make it... any more and it ran out of ram.

I use a 6gb SD so have need at all to use the onboard. Maybe keep 20 mb tops for apps install. NOKIA! PLease consider!

It's a shame and an outrage. I am really disappointed people like Steve say nothing about that. This is when we need them the most!
