N8 Screen Brightness

Loving the phone to bits in all respects bar one and that as the title suggests is the screen brightness. I just find it very dim and dull. Just wanting to know how you are all finding yours. I only have the one other device to compare to at present and that is an Orange San Francisco and it is comfortably brighter than the N8 when set to only 40% brightness.

I have the light sensor the whole way up (though interestingly the brightness only increases when the slider is past half way).

Anyway, it's not a deal breaker but it is a disappointment.

Just a further note. If I shine a light on the front of my N8 (near front facing camera), the N8 display brightens by a considerable amount. But a second after I remove that light the N8 display dims again.

Have you turned up the brightness yet? The phone has the screen brightness set to medium brightness. Turn it up to full and it will "shine" beautifully!

settings/phone/display/light sensor

I find my screen too bright on full and prefer it at medium brightness most of the time. If I am outside I turn the brightness up.

Shining the light on the sensor on the front tells the phone that there is more ambient light so it turns down the screen brightness to save battery. It is perfectly normal

Yea I think I have settled on the thinking that the sensor is a teeny bit too conservative for me. I would prefer to be able to manually set the brightness myself disabling the sensor completely.

Maybe in future firmware perhaps.
