When you said you came across one, from where? Was this a title description that a site posted or did you physically see one.. According to Sony they only manufacture the Magicgates which pretty much means they are one of the same. The manufacturer number MSG-M128a or MSG-128a are the same. I think some vendors had the item listed as MSG-128a, but then changed it to MSG-M128a. Some even took images and edited them because they didn't have an original product. Those vendors that had it listed as the former never even them in stock. It was a typo pretty much. So there is no retail 128 duo that are is magicgate. Being that they were first released in Japan as Magicgates there was never another brand released by Sony.

I couldn't find that pic in the forum.. Besides the only 128mb stick sony makes in blue that doesn't have the words "Magicgate" printed on them are not DUO sticks. They are the standard memory sticks that someone probably propped up in photoshop and added the words "DUO" to it.. Mem 128mb DUO sticks are white in colour. I got one from Japan and one from the states.. They both say magicgate.

Yes, the one I got from Singapore was also a Magicgate one. I think those are the only ones you can buy....

I think only the "16mb" ones are ordinary duo's.. as for the rest of the sticks, they are magic gate duos.

So bigfeat you have 2 sticks? Cool.. Im thinking of getting one more too since my 128 one seems to be getting a little crowded

Hi all

I will be getting my p800 in thr next day or 2, and I was just looking about on EBay for a 128meg memory stick, and I also read this thread and was wondering what Magicgate meant, and does it matter, and is it OK for me to get one, and what are any potential problems.

MagicGate is a protection system, but since the P800 does not support this, the magicgate will work as a normal Duo card in the P800. No problem!
