Album Art - how to apply?

Is it just a matter of having a JPEG in the album folder? This is what I thought, and I've just tried it and the phone doesn't show the image. Hmmm

Thanks

N97 album art has given me headaches too.

I've tried manually adding the images (folder.jpg), tried Nokia Music, OVI Suite and Windows Media Player to automatically
apply the artwork but everything fails (and these apps' playlist handling leaves a lot to be desired too).

You can set it manually within Music Player on the phone but the artwork has to be applied to each individual track.

Pants!

I use Tag&RenameIt MP3. This gives you the option to search online for track listings etc and then you can edit the properties of all songs and add album art through there. Very good and all album art works fine on N97 after doing that on PC.

What has triggered me to ask this is the preview of version 2 firmware, where the art is in the list of albums......

Might look a bit rubbish with a default icon.

tag and rename has an option

tools>add folder.jpg to files

which seems to do the job nicely... I'll see what happens when I send the new files over...

The best way to ensure album art appears on all your tracks is to add it before you put the music on your phone.

The image for the album art is stored within the .mp3 file, so placing it in the same folder won't do the trick. Here's what I do.

For MP3 files, I use a free application called MP3Tag. Install this app and drag and drop the tracks (or folders of tracks) you want to put on the phone into MP3Tag. You will now see a list of the tracks and to the left, all the tag info for each one. I won't go into any great detail here, just how you add your artwork. Select the tracks you wish to apply a single picture to and then drag and drop the image file into the image place holder on the bottom left. Then press save. Job done.

You can also embed the images using Nokia Music, simply br dragging and dropping the image onto the album art placeholder.

I gave up doing it directly on the phone a) because it was too fiddly and b) because it didn't work properly. However, I haven't tried it on the N95 or N97 so I take it it still doesn't work properly?

Anyway, here's a link to MP3Tag... http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

I've always used ID3-TagIT. It gives you the option to either make the mp3 point to an external .jpg file, or to embed the image into the MP3 itself. I always do the latter, so that I don't have to worry about moving images around when sorting out my music.

Pretty much all the music on my phone has album art on it using this

MP3Tag every time. Saves so much hassle and if you move your music to a new phone, you don't have to set everything up again.

Mac Users

And for us Mac users, go to version tracker , and download a free bit of kit called ID3 Editor. Have just done that, as I also want the artwork on the phone, so will play around with it more tomorrow, but on first impression, it looks like it will add the artwork along with other bits of info as required.

Is there no way to do it automatically? WMP has only applied about a 1/3rd of artwork to my MP3's. Perhaps if someone has itunes they can let us know if they get attached automatically?

I like to keep my whole music library on the phone!

Hello,

I used WMP to add all the album art into my music and worked a treat!

1. Go to your library.
2. Double click the album you want to add art too.
3. CTRL+A to select all music tracks in the album.
4. Right click and select Advanced Tag Editor.
5. Click the Pictures tab and select Add.
6. Find the picture you want and select Open.
7. Now the important one!!! In the drop down box called Picture type select Cover (front) then hit OK.
8. It will say working while it adds the picture to all your tracks, then when you sync through WMP of copy the files accross they will have album art.

I have attached some screen shots of the steps(the pics are called STEP 1,2,3,4,5 but do not relate to actual steps, sorry.

Keiran.

Cool, another way.

The problem for me is that WMP has never been able to successfully group my albums, my tags are up to date but it just doesn't work. Think it could be something to do with 'Album Artist' which is a tag which my music doesn't contain and the N97 doesn't use.

If I remember, I will try and do an online video tutorial over the weekend to show you how easy this is with MP3Tag.
