When reading the release notes, does anyone know what this means:

- Freestyle Baseline 3.0 (latest version) update

is this an application thing, or does it have some meaning for the overall version of the OS, and if so is it documented anywhere?

Seems like something only symbian insiders might understand...

Rather an extreme reaction! I bet your beer glass is always half empty

I have a UK E72 but a different version obviously than Steve's as I always get the update available a few days after him.

U.S. version E75 users, I think, are still on the original apparently unstable firmware, and from what I've read, 5800 NAM users haven't received an update in a while either, so it's not unfounded.

It's no secret that NAM versions usually get updates dead last, if at all.

Talking Good thing

I guess it's a good thing that the new Nokia N8 will come standard with a penta-band 3G radio inside. Then it doesn't matter where you buy the phone, you know that you can buy it from Finland itself, and still be able to use it in the USA (AT&T/Tmobile) AND then you will be able to get all the updates to your heart's content.

I can't wait to see how this all turns out. I'm excited and hope that Nokia will set an international standard with this penta-band 3G radio hardware.

My only other concern would be, although it will be great to have 3G where ever you go, but what about '4G'?

I believe

@Jimmy: I believe you. However, I think you should thank the retarded operators and infrastructure Stateside for making it extremely difficult for a company to operate in the U.S.

The thing is, even though your Nokia is unlocked, still means that U.S. operators have a say in what is allowed on their networks. In this context, the U.S. operators are horrible.

In what way? I use an unlocked Samsung i8910 over there with both T-Mobile and AT&T without any problems - apart from lack of signal -and to my knowledge neither of them support it.

Since I travel to the States quite often on business does that mean I need to be more careful with my choice of mobile?

Wasn't specific enough

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough.
What I mean, is that when a firmware upgrade needs to be put out for a range of product codes, it needs to be approved for the specific region that the product code belongs to.

Hey,
Why do some users change their product codes ?
Can US users change their product codes to get the update ?

Change your product code

Look for product codes of cell phones bought directly from Nokia, and use those. They always get updates.

I do this with every Nokia I have (except n900, which didn't get any meaningful updates and probably will not be updated again).

Smile nice update!

Works great - device gets some very nice stability improvements.
Happily announcing that this update makes it one of the best nokias
ever produced so far.... =)

Unfortunately the feature to navigate the menu with the keyboard
is not fixed yet... works only for the unscrolled content...

Nevertheless very good job...!
