Got my iPhone 4

It's the first time I think i've ever waited in line for something that wasn't Star Wars related! Lame huh?!

Love the iPhone 4, e-mails, calendar, facebook all set up in minutes! Will take some time to get used to the typing, i do miss the keyboard of the n97 a little, but not much else!

N97 is currently being erased and shipped off to a phone recycler! My friend Bex bought a 4 too and we can stack ours on top of each other and they're the same width as the N97, it's crazy!

Hope you're not left handed Zyyb!

Since, predominately, most people are right handed... this means they hold their phone in their left hand to input with their right hand... ooops!

7 suggestions for getting around the signal problem...

1. Hold the iPhone 4 in your right hand. That way your chances of dropping those bars are going to be slimmer. But the left lower corner of the iPhone will somewhat touch your face if you’re holding against your right ear so try holding the device with your right hand at your left year. It sounds complicated, especially when driving but it should work for a while.
2. Use the speaker instead. Sure the conversation becomes public but you won’t be touching those antennas and reviews say that the new microphones or the device are much better for speaker voice calls.
3. Engage in short conversations that way your call won’t be dropped immediately.
4. Use the device in landscape position when sending SMS/MMS messages or surfing the web with the lower left corner / upper left corner out of your fingers’ reach.
5. Buy a skin/case for the iPhone. That is the more serious solution which will temporarily address this annoying matter.
6. Use gloves when talking on the phone (wait a second, it’s summer out there! Plus, most of regular gloves are not touch-friendly)
7. Don’t buy the iPhone 4 yet. They’re out of it in most stores and by the time they bring more Apple might sort this out for you.

Would be nice to use it as a phone as well though!

I wonder how slim in comparison it is to the N97 when you stack 2 iPhone 4's, in their protective cases (to protect the glass screens from shattering and enable a signal), on top of one another?

Don't worry iPhone 4 owners if you can't get a signal on your handset... you're not alone!

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, couldn't get one either at the worldwide launch of the iPhone 4 in San Francisco earlier this month.

It seems from this video that, as he admits, 570 other (non iPhone 4's) phones there could get a signal... but the iPhone 4 couldn't... either via WiFi or 3G.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoqh27E6OuU

and he's not even using it left handed!!!

I'd be interested to know how the typing is without a keyboard. One of the reasons I chose the N97 over the iPhone and others is that the N97 has a keyboard. I really like the fact that the N97's keys are spaced fairly far apart and it does not take up space on the screen. I also have a BlackBerry for work and I cannot stand typing on its keypad because the keys are so close together.

The signal problem is not isolated it would seem and is hardware and not software related... so no update fix for it then.

The good news is that Apple have a history of refunding iPhone users, so maybe you can look forward to your app store vouchers in the future... or even a free bumper case!

Gizmodo are getting more and more postings on this...

Makes a cool iTouch though.

Apple take their quality control very seriously. After receiving thousands of complaints from users, they've taken swift action in order to resolve the problem, allowing buyers to use their brand new iPhone 4's to their full capability.

Say hello to Apple's answer to the iPhone 4's antennae problem...

Below is a excerpt from Apple's latest press release...

It fits around your hand and your iPhone 4 fits neatly inside, thanks to it's innovative grip design. It is, by far, THE best tool to use with your new iPhone 4. Best of all, it's in GOLD! Slightly off topic I know...

I saw the TV advertisement for the Apple iPad earlier, which stated...

"You already know how to use it"...

So, why does it come with instructions?

Oh Fleksnes...

Thank you... thank you... thank you!

I haven't laughed soooo much in ages.

When all else fails... blame the consumer.

Got to, sort of, play with one last night. I say "sort of" because there was no signal whatsoever on it (N97 almost full) and would not connect to the pubs WiFi.

In spite of no apps on it yet, it repeatedly froze too.

It's probably fair to say it froze a lot because it was having so much difficulty getting a signal.

Actually zxon, you might be right on that point, thinking about it.

Also, to be fair, as I have mentioned in other postings, none of the other iPhone models get a very good signal there, regardless of operator.

I do not understand why it would not connect to the pub's WiFi though as his 3Gs iPhone did and my N97 and laptop were connected as well as 2/3 other non iPhones.
