Why samsung has to complicate the update task?! Is there any official update program like best in the world NOKIA SOFTWARE UPDATE (NSU)...just plug in your Nokia Pres Update and everythink is done in 10min...download and automatic software storre..no Apolo stuff etc...???

When Samsung release the first OFFICIAL firmware update for the 8510, you'll see some software very similar to NSU from Samsung!

I certainly hope they fix the out of sync sound when filming. I can't film anything now! Guess I'll keep my trusty old N93 handy for when my kid does soething funny for the time being.

If you search these forums or Samsung's developer forums, you'll see they have promised an update this year!

Yeah and its frustrating because the N96, while out later than the i8510, already has a couple of software updates out for it.

Samsung really are rubbish at their customer support. Its almost like they don't care about their users. I am starting to see why Nokia has such a loyal fan base even though their phones are not necessarily the best handsets. At least they seem to listen and respond to the users.

Lets just wait and see if Samsung comes trhough. Since having a N93 I'm not all that enthousiastic about Nokia anymore. It took quite a lot of whining on forums to fix a simple bug, that prevented two buttons from being pushed at the same time, making gaming impossible. They fixed that eventually, but that was the ONLY thing they ever fixed.

They did however work hard on the N95 firmware. With version 30 it was very polished software.

I certainly hope Samsung fixes at least the worst bugs. It's quite unacceptable for me that I can't make proper movies, because the sound is out of sync. If they don't fix that I'll have this phone only until the moment Nokia releases a 8mp Symbian device.

Only the N96 was publicly announced back in February, which means it was pretty much production hardware at that time, so Nokia have had 9 months to make it's firmware work (they're on the 3rd release now)... and it's still buggy!

Samsung announced the 8510 in July and shipped it in September - that's only 2 months. Even now they've only had 4 months and have (although not publicly) released at least 4 different firmwares for the phone.

Just because Samsung haven't yet finalised their public firmware delivery tools and so haven't released a downloadable firmware, doesn't mean their customer service is crap. It means you have to compare like for like, not like for dislike.

You can't deduce from a device's announcement date the readines of the hardware. When a manufacturer announces a device, it might be anything from a mock-up through various prototype stages to final.

I've seen phones announced that you're not allowed to touch, because they're either not real at all, or their parts barely hold togheter.

I've also seen phones announced only when they're really ready to actually ship (at least good enough in the manufacturer's mind).
