Are my 808 PureView's optics defective ? (samples)

Hi everyone,

I've had my 808 for almost a week now and I stumbled upon an odd issue with the pictures the camera takes. All of the photos look "pinched" so to say towards the center of the photo, or they be bulgeing on the left.
I frankly don't know how to describe this but here are two samples so everyone can see what I am on about.

In this pic, notice how the roof looks a bit concave at the middle, as well as the lower part of the photo, resulting in a pinched of some sort effect.

What do you guys think is this normal, or is it not how it's supposed to be ?

I do not own an 808 but by the look of your samples, compared to Steve's review there is something wrong. It might some settings. Did you talk with the store which sold it?

I've definitely got a 'degree' of distortion on my 808 pictures but am not sure it's as bad as yours..
Is there a 'common picture' we could both take and compare?

ziggyball, why don't you try taking a photo of your computer's monitor at a similar distance and angle to my shot, then we might be able to compare.

I've actually talked about this problem to reps for Nokia Care in my country last week, they said they had replicated the results with their test unit and that they had escalated this issue further, but haven't heard from since. Today I contacted them again, still no answers.
To say the least I am quite unhappy with this, but I won't rest until I get an adequate answer.

Well it looks like you have a similar problem, I can clearly see how the image looks pinched towards the center.
Complex or not, this is an expensive device that has been developed and refined for 5 years. Some car manufacturers spend less time and effort in developing cars! I am not happy, otherwise quality is simply mindblowing.

Actually, this bubble eye effect was seen in the N8 too, and is expected in 808 too, because they have 28mm lens, rather than 35mm.

That's why 35mm sometimes is better: it has slight zoomed in effect, and there's no bubble eye effect... And potraits are better too. In 28 mm, if you take a potrait, it often turns out a big nose.


I saw the samples, and I think it could be normal or not... both ways.

The monitor, from which angle is it snapped? Completely straight...?
And why didn't you snap the complete monitor in one centered frame?

The monitor was shot slightly from the left, while the building is shot as straight as I could. I really am no optics expert, but since the photo of my screen seems inflated on one side, then why is the picture of the building looking like it's being squished from the top and bottom ?
