Sony Ericsson Launch P800 Application Proclamation

Sony Ericsson have launched a developer competition which they are calling the P800 Application Proclamation. Sony Ericsson in conjunction with Metrowerks and Handango are aiming to encourage developers to develop using Metrowerks software innovative and cutting edge applications for the launch of the P800.

Sony Ericsson Intro and Info:
The Sony Ericsson P800 Application Proclamation - a rare opportunity for you to see how valuable your wireless apps can be. Wouldn't you like to create an application that will be featured during the launch of the P800 Smartphone? Nothing too big, or been-done, or an application that uses all the features of the phone. But, something that's small, highly original and enhances the everyday life of the P800 user. A world-clock, currency converter, golf score-card or something that no one has even thought of. It's all about creativity and realizing the value of getting your code into the consumer's hands.

Developers of the top 47 applications will win:
* A Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone
* Development Tools
* Placement on Handango.com - a global marketplace for wireless applications.
* Total prize package worth US$1900

The top three designers will receive:
* all the prizes plus a FREE development system.
* Total prize package worth US$4900

A panel consisting of Sony Ericsson Product Development, Engineering, Marketing and Applications specialists will judge applications based on the following criteria:

* Is it innovative?
* Is it practical?
* Is it easy to use?
* Is it cool?

With regards to entering it is necessary to be a paid up member of Sony Ericsson Mobility world. This helpful FAQ answers the question that many will ask:

Do I have to pay to participate?
Yes, we do require you to pay a registration and Sony Ericsson Basic Developer Support fee of $500 USD to participate. This support package will not only entitle you to professional support for the duration of the P800 Application Proclamation , but also for other Sony Ericsson device-related technologies for a year. However, if you have already signed up for Sony Ericsso n Device Support via Ericsson Mobility World, you will not be charged for this fee when registering for the P800 Application Proclamation.

It is very encouraging seeing an effort to ensure that there are some good applications ready from third parties in time or soon after the launch.
