The E61i hits v2?

Thanks to Ed for pointing out that firmware 2.0633.65.01 is now available for the Nokia E61i in many regions (updating people from 1.0633 etc). There's no changelog as yet, someone please comment as to what's new!

Read on in the full article.

Found it on the nokia.europe site

It's for E65, but the firmware version is the same as for E61i. Found it on the News section of europe.nokia.com's software updates page:

"Nokia E65 software version 2.0633.65.01 released - 15 November 2007

This version includes improvements in Browser, W-LAN and VOIP functionality and usability. The release also includes Bluetooth, messaging and calendar improvements as well as some new themes. "

Cheers

Unhappy

It is not yet available for my vanilla E61i UK version. Is it just me?

E61i firmware update

Nokia's update page is not showing an update but try running the software updater program and see what you get. e-series . org suggests this.

This is exactly what I've done, but no joy...

I think they've copied E65 firmware and put it on the E61i... if you upgrade you get the new awful pink and plum dots themes, and also the setting to activate T9, which obviously don't work!! :-(

Lightbulb T9?

Did I get it right? T9? On E61i???

I just don't get the idea of T9 on a QWERTY keyboard, LOL.
It would be better to include spellcheck, now and then.

What news for the E61?

Angry

Well...now I've tried it and I can't see the update either. My E61i is an unlocked handset, purchased from Nokia as soon as it became available in May. Blinking well baffling!

No thanks

E61i is near perfect for my use, I will not change anything on it. I think those who tried the update are courageous...

I've now upgraded to 2.0633.65.01 twice! The first time I used NSS to change the product code from 0531212 to HKG (Hong Kong?) 0542904. This worked but messed up the keyboard a little: The became a Yen symbol; / and ? changed places and \ became . After two days I found this product code on e-series.org: RM-227 EURO A = 0538563. This worked like a charm with normal keyboard layout restored.

The HKG download was about 60MB while the Euro one was about 54MB. Both added the new key activation app but the HKG upgrade had an addtional Dictionary program (without any data).

Backing up, installing new firmware and restoring shows that some programs are badly behaved, either disappearing completely or leaving a stub with an odd alphanumeric name in Apps Manager. Some appear to stay but won't open and need re-installing. Symbian and other app programmers need to get to grips with this. I never had this much hassle restoring a Palm after a hard reset.

On a more positive note: I am pleased with the upgrade so far. The email button now works properly, giving the inbox on a short press and a new message for a long one. The calendar screen saver is good, showing next alarm event time and changing days with no alarm set red instead of black.

Nobody who has upgraded has mentioned SDHC support. Something of a chicken and egg situation here: I won't buy a microSHC card until I know it works and without such a card I can't test...anybody?

A2dp?

Sorry. Nothing to test with. I use an AD-41 on foot and a Parrot car kit when on the road.
