Tip: Don't use the Nokia cable for data transfer

I've been using the official Nokia DKE-2 USB cable that came with the N95 for ages now. Using the phone connected in Data Storage mode and transferring music etc. to the device. It would always transfer at speeds <1MB/sec.

Anyway, the Sandisk 8GB MicroSDHC card I bought came with its own USB adapter. I decided to try using that instead. Glad I did, my data now transfers at a constant 10.3MB/sec.!

Moral of the story - don't use the Nokia cables for data transfer, take the card out and use the adapters instead. Some of you might have already known this, but I didn't :P I transferred 3GB in about 5mins instead of the 30mins it was quoting through the cable!

Beer Actually

it shows that the USB port on the N95 is a POS .. if you're transferring a bunch of stuff then a card-reader will always be quicker since its USB 2

I agree. When transferring large amounts (100MB+) of data, such as when using the map loader, it's definitely worth taking the card out of the phone and interfacing it directly with your computer.
