Does anyone know why my screen keeps alternating between bright and not so bright?

Simple as that.

It just keeps going from being full brightness to going a bit darker, then a bit later it'll go dark..etc

Doesn't seem connected to anything i'm doing at the time, just seems random. I've checked the settings and it's on maximum brightness.

Any help much appreciated. Has this happened to anyone else?

Cheers
James

apparently the screen regulates itself and changes from bright to darker depending on light conditions.

can anyone back this up? i felt like mine had just started doing it so i was unsure whether it was something i'd done.

it just feels strange because it can change several times while i'm just sat in the same spot with the same light on it.

yes its the light sensor, mine does it but not all the time. i have mine set on the lowest light setting to save on power and it doesnt seem as sensitive, try it and see how you get on

Yeh, if you check your settings (for the light senor) you can set it to do and work as you want it to.

I use mine on the train and I notice this happens especially when its bright sunlight and then I go into a tunnel. If it is bothering you, you can switch the sensitivity or turn it off altogether.

The light sensor is at the top of the phone in between the speaker and the 'front camera'

Hmm, I thought you could but looking again you can't adjust sensitivity, must be thinking of my old phone. Well you can do the following:

Go to Settings > General > Personalisation > Display and change the light sensor level. I think this is what you describe anyway but you will notice that, at the extremes, the light sensor doesn't make much difference
