N86 - Music icon showing folder, and iplayer not working after firmware upgrade

I recently updated my Nokia N86 using the inbuilt updater. Now wishing I hadn't.

Updated to 20.115, dated 21-09-2009

First in the menu the Music icon has changed from what used to be a music icon to a normal folder icon. Why? Looks worse!

Secondly and more annoyingly iplayer now can't play videos. Not sure if this is the iplayers fault or real players. I get an error displaying "unable to play either sound or video clip. Trying to play partially." following which the sound plays with the "wifi***.3gp" filename displayed on screen.

Could a problematic update have taken place? If so what options do I have? Can't roll back. Can't update until new version comes out. This is really annoying.

Thanks all.

Thumbs up Try this

I had this problem after upgrading my phone and I found a post that said delete/rename the

R1_Mobile_4_0.cfg
plugin_archive.txt

files from the phones C: drive, root directory..

Use the file manager found in the Office application directory...

I renamed them, rebooted my phone and my problematic .mp4's now played..

hope this helps

you can update using the N86’s OTA (Over-The-Air) feature...

showmak:

That firmware update doesn't appear for me!?

scooby:

Do you have a link to that blog post? A bit worrying just renaming/deleting root files.

I had this problem with iPlayer on my N86.
I think it was caused by downloading a 3rd party app, though not sure which one of the many I have tried.

To resolve it I did the following:-
1 - Backup all data using PC Suite.
2 - Performed 'hard reset' of phone using *#7370#
3 - Reloaded phone backup with PC Suite.

iPlayer now works fine.

I am running v20.115 software, which is custom version 20.115.205.02.

ustom version 20.115.205.02 ???

How did you upgrade to this? Does the hard reset go back to the factory version of firmware? i.e. will I need to update f/w again once reset?

Currently it shows Custom version : 20.115.229.01

The v20.115 software was via an over the air update some time in November I think.

I didn't consciously have to update the firmware after the hard reset, but I didn't check before I reloaded the phone backup using PC Suite, which may have done it automatically for me. Not sure.

iPlayer is still working fine for me, but the next OTA update isn't yet available for my phone which is probably due to me being on Vodafone.

You only need to pay attention to the 20.115 part. The rest relates to the variant of the fw. So the fact this is different is because the variant is different.
