You know, I didnt expect something like this to be the one thing that made me regret not getting an N95. Im ok with not having the better camera, bigger screen, TV out, and regular size headphone jack - but not being able to have a lightsaber noise? Unfair

Yeah, this is the true killer app for the N95. Stick that in your iPhone, Jobsie

Oh man, how totally stupid and pointless...

I LOVE IT! AHHAHAHAHA

Although the office isnt too keen!

seriously tho, shows some of the great capabilites the phone has... why didnt Nokia think i do it? Or maybe thats part of thei iPhone killing plan... leaving it 'open' for people to come up with these great apps.

It may have been a time thing. Perhaps they stuck the accelerometer in just before releasing the phone and decided, rather than spend time and money developing applications as well as possibly delaying the phone from market, they'd just put it out there and let developers play with it.
I think Nokia has quite a forward-thinking attitude to homebrew development and it pays off when you look at the huge range of powerful, useful or just fun apps that are out there.

yeah, its great that there is this homebrew element. Undoubtedly it will enhance the phones overall capabilities plus, offer free ideas to the big 'N'.

OK, so I've installed the accelerometer API and the lightsabre app, both on the phone memory, but when I run it it mostly makes a farting noise. The proper noise is only very occasional.

Any ideas?

At the risk of sounding patronising, have you tried waving it around?

If I forgot to say that I had waved it around you're entitled to ask. That's when it makes most of the farting noise. Only very occasionally does a 'proper' sound break through.

Almost as if its distorting most of the time.

i dont know. i think the electronics have to be planned and designed at a very early stage and something cant be thrown in" at the last minute on something like a mobile phone where space is a very big design consideration. i could be wrong though cause i cant come up with any good reason why they didnt use it either.

That's not me! It's a guy called The Symbian Guru who also made these hilarious iphone vs N95 videos:

This is the best one (you're sh*tting me!): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MwrE5UCUf7s

Anyway, back on topic. The green light on the light sabre is a nice touch and it works much better but it is still far too loud.
