Real player alternatives

Hi,

Just got the E71 and playing about with it. (had to buy this handset as nokia refused to fix my other unit which i'd only had for a few months. They say the chip had fallen out of the circuit board. I say it was prob not soldered properly, but they wont listen)

Anyway....
I just put my mem card from the prev nokia into this and it hardly plays any of my video files. Something to do video/sound and it will try to partially play them. From what I've read it seems to be unable to support vids that could have been records at a higher res

My question is what can I use that's FREE that will play it.

I tried to d-l an old version of core player, but that failed to work (cert error). And the new version needs to be paid for

Is there a VLC type player for the E71

Also I was told to download Google maps, as the maps s/w in the phone will not properly function as a gps type device (updates your location as you move) without paying a monthly fee. What else is "cool" to download. Perhaps some type of weather app (has to be free too lol)
