How to Debrand / Update 5230?

Hi all, I've just got my Vodafone 5230 unlocked - phew! - and now I'd like to get rid of the last traces of the Vodafone branding etc. I understand that it's possible to do this by changing the codes in the phone so that the software updater will download the vanilla generic firmware and not the vodafone branded ones. Is this right?

I gather that there might be problems with doing a backup restore after changing the codes so I'll just not do this (new phone, not much on it yet).

If someone could confirm that this is possible with the 5230 I'd be very grateful. I'd also be pleased to get links to the apps that'll allow me to do this.

Thanks in advance!
