Nokia N8-00 / N98

Folks,

Just been doing a little bit of digging around, and don't know if it's true, but Nokia are supposed to announce the launch of the new N8-00 also known as the N98, with a view to release date of September.

Initial rumours are:

4in CAPACITIVE screen
12mp camera
Symbian ^3

That's all I know so far. What worries me is the Sept launch date. Why? This is when Apple usually release the iPhone ( Summer announcement, Sept release ) . So, I think we're back to the scenario last year, where Nokia rushed out the N97 to hit the market before the iPhone 3GS only for them to get it horribly wrong.

THe N8 sounds great and I would deffo be interested in it, but once bitten twice shy, I don't want to buy a phone that being rushed out just to beat the next generation of iPhone onto the market. I really want them to get it right this time.

i think we're all done being early adopters here, but the specs seem really good, and well, maybe history will repeat itself (with us, i mean), but this time Nokia gets it right...or they can just cock up again =/

The N98 won't be a patch on the iPhone 4 OS should it arrive, I don't even think Symbian^3 will dent it. However I am willing to be proved wrong. With the release of such phones as the HTC Desire/Legend, iPhone 4, Windows Phone 7 Symbian is looking, well a bit long in the tooth.

The N98 is coming out at a very competitive time, if its to be believed.

Engadget have this on their site

as far as I know, Nokia Vasco will be announced in April and I hope, that it will be available in June not in September.

Appologies

Beginning to sound like Russian April Fools that might've lost (or indeed gained ) something in the translation, looks like "Press Release" might be copy/paste of N86's

Plus it was after midday for him - swizz

Oh dear indeed.

If that screen shot is anything to go by, the OS looks pretty similar to what we already had on the N97 - not much of an improvement there. Hard to tell with all these 'sneak previews' as to how genuine they really are, but first impressions don't seem too promising do they?

Beer 3.5" screen is poor and therefore

the resolution is low .. I must say I'm disappointed that it is not sporting a 4" 854x480 capacitive as seen in the SE X10 .. the rest is fine .. the camera will compete with my Satio ..
I think 256M RAM is plenty .. and Symbian is MUCH better at handling memory requirements than say iPhone OS or WinMo ..

I'll ait and see if these spec's are right then I might be heading to Android -land ville ..

No FM Tranmsitter?

It's perhaps the most loved feature I enjoyed on the N97, surprised it's not on this new one.
