How do I prevent 3G data use on my X6?

I've had a look at the settings but found nothing? I only want to connect through wifi to avoid expensive carrier data bills... Thanks in advance.

The only surefire way that worked for me when I was abroad recently was to put the phone in offline mode profile (aka flight mode), then re-activate the wi-fi connection before starting my web browsing. Once I'd finished my online stint I'd then reactivate my general profile (or profile of choice). Sounds like a chore but it meant I had no worries about 3G biting my wallet in the arse.

The X6 (when running V11 firmware) had a nasty habbit of switching to 3G even if you started out using a wlan, not a big problem at home but a real pain when abroad in places like Eastern Block countries outside the Euro zone. I think V20 firmware is much better.

I had this e61 and though it had horrible usability, organization... several years later on X6 it seems that things stay the same. Consistency is important for any OS but what's the point of keeping crap and needless complication consistent? It is a pain to accomplish anything and now you discover that you can't even disable 3G. After having tried webOS, iOS4 and Android, I think Symbian should do quite a huge revamp on the usability, user interface and aesthetics fronts. Even hardcore Symbian followers should appreciate more symplicity and appealing icons. Why don't they get an iPhone at Nokia and learn a few things?

Thanks for the advice.

Of course it is easy to just disable 3G by selecting:
menu > settings > connectivity > network > network mode
but that won't stop the phone from trying to use a data network over 2G (GSM).

For N97, go to Menu> web > options >settings > general> access point, select ask when needed. This way when you need to connet, you are prompted.
I hope it helps.

depends what it is you want to connect... most apps should have a method of comms assigned to them... just make sure it is always ask or assign it to a destination that doesnt contain 2G/3G

X6 no traffic costs

Hi, I did it that way... in Deutsch
Menue, Einstell. (Einstellungen), Verbindungen, Ziele (Netzziele), Internet
I do have three 'Zugangspunkte'. The original is 'T-Mobile Internet' cause this is a T-Mobile brandet machine. Open that 'Zugangspunkt' 'T-Mobile Internet' or Your's one. I changed the 'Zugangspunktname' (this is the 3rd position from above) from original 'internet.t-mobile' to 'xxxinternet.t-mbile' and the 'Verbindngsname' (this is the 1st position from above) from original 'T-Mobile Internet' to 'xxxT-Mobile Internet'.
This doing have the efect that while going online the machine can NOT get an connection. So no line no pain.
Is there anywere an translation with the menue german - english?
