n97 bricked after debrand flash

Hi all,

I debranded my t-mobile v10 n97 and upon rebooting all it did was cycle on and off with a white screen.

Now after following guides i was told to use jaf or phoenix to re-flash it.

I have spent hours trying to do this.

This info is wrong, all i had to do was hard format it. now that was easier said than done.

After a while searching through forums, i found the solution.

Open the phone to reveal qwerty keyboard and hold left shift, spacebar and backspace, then press and hold power button. this will bring up the white screen and then NOKIA let go of the buttons and wait for it to reboot, this has solved my problem!

Hello all

Thanks for saving my butt! My phone is up and running again.
The only reason I upgraded the firmware was to see if it sorted out my signal strength issues, which it hasnt.
I've gotten hold of Nokia, and they want me to bring the phone in. My issue is this. Previously the phone was a T-Mobile UK branded N97 with FW v10. It is now a Euro QW1 FW v11. It obviously has a different product code to that shown under the battery, so I want to change it back.

Can I use the previous methods to roll back the firmware to v10 and set the product code back to the original?
Or will Nokia go ahead and repair the phone anyway, as it was giving trouble before the upgrade anyway?.

Hi Guys,

I noticed a few of you are on T-Mobile UK. Can I just ask do you use the Euro code or the UK code? I can't decide between the RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black (0570817) code or the N97 UK CV B (0585162) code? My current code is 0587665.

Also I'm a bit nervous so what is the best method to for a total NOOB like me to use for those who went from similar route as above? Sorry for sounding like a whiner but I love this phone and obviously my bollocks are being tested

Cheers,

Taz

I'm on T-Mobile UK and went to euro code (0570817) with no problems. I used the JAF method as detailed here

http://n97debranding.blogspot.com/

The only problem I encountered was that my firmware update files (the ones downloaded using navifirm) weren't being found automatically by JAF even though I'd updated the .ini files as stated in the tutorial.

In this case you have 2 options, input them manually into JAF (which I found a bit buggy and had to manually paste the file path in) or move the products folder from nokia\phoenix into the root of the c: drive. For some reason for me JAF was looking in the root of c: for the files and not in nokia\phoenix\products as stated in the tutorial.

After that it was plain sailing. As stated by others the hardest bit is trying to plug the phone in and turn it on at just the right time for JAF to work its magic. I kept getting "phone not found" errors or "phone responded but not in flash mode"

Just keep trying and you'll get it eventually.

Accuweather and Facebook widgets were missing after the upgrade, I downloaded accuweather from the ovi store, I'd imagine the facebook one is there too, can't say for sure as I don't do wastebook myself.

Good Luck

That's interesting because I didnt loose my Failbook widget and used the "Use Ini" option (also t-mobile)

I wonder if something goes astray if you port the files in manually. Not that I rearlly care the Facebook widget is slow and is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I scrapped it and went back to the mobile site.

Thumbs up All you need is a hard reset! NO PHOENIX REQUIRED!

As my title says and also like jamesworts (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum...&postcount=151) says its as simple as upgrading the firmware and then when is phone is OFF:

1. Open the n97 up.
2. Hold the Left Shift + Space Bar + Backspace down.
3. While holding the buttons down turn on the power and continue to hold them down till the Nokia screen comes up.
4. Thats it! Phone will start like normal after that!

Fantastic!

NOTE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR PHOENIX, FLASHING, ETC!

The Facebook widget is a free download from the Ovi store, just have a look in the 'Applications ' section.

I used NAVIFIRM to download the v11 firmware set.
I had to fiddle with JAF because it didn't automatically pick up the correct ROMs, so I had to select them manually as follows:

MCU Flash file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM-505_11.0.021_prd.core.C00
PPM Flash file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM-505_11.0.021_prd.rofs2.V01
CNT Flash file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM-505_11.0.021_C01_prd.rofs3.fpsx
APE Variant file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM505_507_11.0.021_uda1_001.u da.fpsx

Select Maunal Flash, Dead USB, Factory Set and Normal mode and hit flash.

My N97 is now working again. I'm guessing it's on the right firmware because that's what I flashed, what's the *# code to check?

TYVM for the heads-up, andonevris.
for the mcu flash file, i had to rename the file extension to .COR rather than the .COO because it wouldnt pick up the file, once i did ths it worked fine AFTER REMOVNG MY SIM CARD THOUGH
