And it is kind of obvious when you think about it; there is some work involved in updating the screen (CPU processing, memory access, display access) and work means consumption of energy = it uses up your battery (eventually).

I use the technique someone posted here some time ago. I have a gif file with 1x1 pixels as a screensaver. the screen appears blank and i really does save battery! how do I know? well, with the nokia screensaver I would hear the phone beeping twice due to power shortage before it turned off and now I hear the beep about 5 or 6 times... not an exact scientific test, but I think it gives us an idea...

Why...

You can try creating a very very slow animation of a still image. Like showing off a simple message such as "BACK OFF!!!!" and let it appear randomly.

This is what our default screen saver does and it does not eat that much battery.

The GIF images i sent to my phone does not repeat itself when I view them there. (not talking about the screensavers) Is there a way to set the settings so that the phone does so? I have some stereo images that I want to view on my phone but the GIF images do not repeat at all.

You mean anyview? Is that a software? Nokia's own picture viewer can't do that? And where can I find this anyview?

it works alright but then that would mean I'd have to do that everytime I wanna view a GIF image. Is there no other way?
