New: Tom Tom MOBILE - navigation software

Tom Tom have announced Tom Tom MOBILE a Bluetooth GPS car navigation system for smartphone. Maps are preloaded on a memory card, and there is a 3D map that along with spoekn directions is designed to help you navigate easily from door to door.

Features:
# Complete car navigation solution on your smartphone
# Smallest lightest Bluetooth GPS on the market
# Hassle free installation - everything is preloaded on a plug-in memory card
# Brilliant 3D maps and clear spoken instructions guide you from door to door
# Extra information with 1000s of points of interest included (restaurants, hotels, parking…)
# Door-to-door navigation using house numbers
# Favourite shortcuts: access your favorite routes safely while driving with digital shortcuts (e.g. key in 123 = home; your return route is automatically calculated)
# Personal points of interest: add your own points of interest and ask for a notification sound when near somewhere useful like a friend’s house, company office, petrol station or hotel.
# Phone calls still received in the same way; during a call, visual instructions are still displayed but audio is muted
# TomTom wireless GPS receiver included, along with a map of your country or region
# Works with Nokia 6600, Orange SPV-E200 and Qtek 8080, with more compatible phones available soon
# Pre-installed memory card which is reusable; same card can be used in new compatible handsets when upgrading

A good thing that they are gonna make it for more devices than PPC and Palm! I hope this will come to UIQ very soon too though!

I have been waiting for something like this for a while, especially since they stopped supporting Psions. Countrywide coverage all installed at once rather than relying on downloads as you go that other programs do. I have seen their Citymaps program which offered great detail, but only major cities (London, Birmingham) unlike the last version of Citymaps for Psion which offered national coverage.
I am glad they have brought this out, do you think they will offer it without GPS device for if you have your own?
What will some of us do with lots of apps stored on MMC? Will there be any space to put them on with the software?

TomTom Mobile Symbian Smartphones Compatibility

Does the TomTom Mobile work on other Symbian Smartphones than the
Nokia 6600 ??

I mean, is the software designed and "limited" to Symbian 7 devices only,
or does it run on Symbian 6.1 devices as well (Sendo X, 3650/3660, N-Gage, SX-1 etc..)

I would really like to run this software on my Sendo X.

I've got it working quite nicely on my Nokia 6260, although you will need a card reader to transfer the folders on to your RSMMC

Does anyone know how to put european maps on?

I guess you just buy the relevant map from Tom Tom and then copy the directory structure over just like you did for your UK one.
