For 0845 server dail up numbers, try to find out what town the servers are kept in and then put that area code on the number instead of 0845. ISP's are reluctant to tell you so it can be difficult to find out. Servers can be anywhere in the country, not necessarily where the head office is, but one of my ISP's had it in the same building so I just changed the code.

I would have to pay like $15 AUD for I think 3mb a month it was

Id just as soon get a BT or IR device.
Download the apps etc off my PC and send em to the phone via those for free

Recieveing email would be handy on the phone ansd that doesnt cost much, but ive been download alot of attachmenets etc at the momment.

Okay - I called orange today to sign up for GPRS - they didnt mention this access pack. Now I'm left with a 4 per month for 0.5 Mb!!!! charge!

Does the orange access still exist???

yes it still exists, it only started a few days ago, you will have to ask for it by name, be persistant because as it is new not all staff are clued up on it yet.

Yup, GPRS is expensive. Here are the various charges on Orange:

http://www.orange.co.uk/talkplans/gprs/costs.html

I believe this is the cost of the access packs.

I JUST called orange - they say the access pack isnt available untill october 1st.

They also say the 4Mb of GPRS is only for WAP access and not email.

No that page linked to in the above post is not to the new orange access pack.
The access pack is 4 a month for either:
200 dailup wap minutes or
10MB gprs data a month.

I phoned orange, I think it was friday, and got connected to the 10MB one, I then phoned up two days later and got it confirmed that I was on that plan.
Yes wap data is categorised different to email data.
I am on hold to fax and data services to confirm this for you at the moment.

Ok lakeywhite, let us know when you find out.
As for finding a town's phone number for a service provider, rather than the 0845 number, can anyone recommend any?

OK I called 156, fax and data services, and confirmed that I was on the access pack from the 19th September, also something I didn't know was that the first month has an introductory offer of being free! So I wont be charged untill the month of October from the 19th.
I said about friends phoning up and being told it was not available and the operator laughed and said it was definately available, she even put me on hold while she confirmed this with a manager.
I also asked about email data being included in this 10MB and was told that it was, she read out some of their literature to me over the phone that made it sound like it was, I will have to wait until I get a bill to confirm this though, or untilevery one has had their training at Orange.
My advice is to phone 156 and ask to have the access pack, they will either do it or put you through to customer services with a note saying what you want.

Thanks for the info.
So, you get up to 10Mb download for 4 a month? Can you access the web (html, not wap), pop3 and imap e-mail with that?

Nice one lakeywhite, I've just phoned Orange and got 10MB GPRS for 4/month, WAP only though.

When I asked about GPRS she told me about the standard 4 for 0.5 MB, but when I asked for the specific access pack (Ihad to specify exactly what package I was talking about), she went away to check it out and offered it.

I'm guessing that they must be price matching some other offer, she did a lot of checking on her computer and then went to talk to someone else first.

GPRS charges in Malaysia

I just received my bill for last month. GPRS charges alone cost me RM293 for 7325Kb. That's almost 48.

That's the precise reason why I am on the high cost GPRS band with Vodafone. It's a hefty 28, but I get 15Mb of full internet which isn't so bad when looking at the alternatives.
