2GB works fine on the front line

Interesting to see someone on the front line at Nokia confirming that 2GB cards work fine with Symbian OS 9 and S60 3rd edition, at least on the E61 tested. I wonder who'll be the first to get hold of and try a 4GB miniSD? Still, 2GB is pretty jaw-dropping when you stop to think about it.

Read on in the full article.

You've been lucky then. Many people have reported problems with 2GB cards on a number of Nokia devices.

Slight hiccup on that front - the review E61 that Ewan had is being upgraded to the latest firmware, I suspect this will delay his review a week or so? I should have my E70 review out by the end of the coming week though, assuming it arrives with near final firmware.

slitchfield, thanks for your reply and information.
That seems be a good news in a way, since they are coming up with final firmware version.

Any information from your source on expected ETA of these devices.
The only reliable one I read was from vuunet - saying they will do the deliveries in April. But who knows!

It'll be different in different markets/networks etc. It'll be shipping *somewhere* in the world this week, I suspect. Probably Finland!

9500 meets 2GB

I have been using a 9500 for almost a year with a 2GB card and it "sort of" works. I don't know about S60 and 2GB cards, but the response seems mixed.

Here's what I have found: I/O intensive applications on the card cause crashes, where non-I/O intensive applications do not.

Most apps can be installed to flash with no problems, while some apps (Legacy comes to mind) will randomly crash when loaded on the card. The camera will crash the phone if the default directory is on the card. Contacts will randomly crash with flash-based databases. I am sure messaging and the calendar would also crash the phone if the data was on flash.

I use the flash card for backups and read-mostly storage. I put most apps on there and regularly move video and pictures to flash. If the application is read-mostly (e.g. mp3, picture and video viewing, ebook library, most applications) then it works fine.

Hopefully this helps,
Marty
