The N97 supports 14 distinct Bluetooth device protocols.

By comparison the iPhone 3GS only supports 5.

Each BT device is a method by which your N97 can communicate with the PC (for a distinct purpose) such as:

A2DP - Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
AVRCP - Audio/Video Remote Control Profile
BIP - Basic Imaging Profile
DUN - Dial Up Networking Profile
FTP - File Transfer Profile
GAP - Generic Access Profile
GOEP - Generic Object Exchange Profile
HFP - Hands Free Profile (probably not supported by your computer)
HID - Human Interface Device Profile
HSP - Headset Profile (probably not supported by your computer)
OPP - Object Push Profile
PBAP, PBA - Phone Book Access Profile
SDAP - Service Discovery Application Profile
SAP, SIM - SIM Access Profile

I don't know about Vista, but on my XP system the Bluetooth connection manager allows me to select which BT profiles that I want to enable for each device as well as the level of security for each device (auto-enabled, confirm, block).
