E75, N97, iPhone 3GS, N86 hit the Grid

The Nokia N97, N86 and E75, along with the iPhone 3GS are now in my smartphone-choosing Grid, if you'd care to try your luck. After finding what the Grid thinks is your perfect smartphone, try playing the 'fiddle the preferences so that device X wins' game - it'll while away your Friday afternoon, anyway! 8-)

Read on in the full article.

Whereas previously its always suggested the E71 to me (which I agree with), now its given the E75 with E71 as runner up (which I do not agree with).

I suspect this is because I said games was important.

I would have though form factor would be a major factor though that doesn't seem to be one of the questions.

N95 8GB FTW \o/

But I've got one. :-/ At least it put the N86 as runner-up as I'm tending to that for my upgrade later this year.

the alternative would be to upgrade to the N97 and sell it, I suppose...

I too now have the E75 over the E71 on the grid. Having tried the E75 it is a no-no. I need to be able to put text in easily, preferably one handed, and certainly do not want the phaff of a slide-out keyboard.

Hi Steve,

Your grid seems pretty biased against the G1.

I see that you've got the TMobile G1 as only a '4' for wider connectivity despite having WLan, 3g, GPRS.

Video playback as a '2' and video recording as a '0' - the recent Cupcake firmware update did endow the G1 with video recording, albeit only at 352x288 and at around 15fps, even so, it's certainly not a '0'.

Battery life is admittedly pretty dismal, but you can change to a double capacity battery fairly for around a tenner, most of which come with a new back cover.

Has anyone out there got an Omnia i8910, I'd love to know what the battery life's like?

E71 with 373 came as winner for me with E75 coming second. However, I am not looking at any of these, waiting for E72

@JCB: Good point, my G1 ratings were based on the initial hardware I looked at. I need to change the scores to reflect the new firmware. On the next update!

Steve,
Any chance you could add the names of the handsets to the bottom of the table too please? I can't recognise them all from the pictures, and it would be very useful to have their identities next to their final scores...

Steve, could you elaborate on how 'Local connectivity options' is computed? Looking at the scores of all phones listed, it seems that infrared alone is worth 5 points. And the number of people who care about IR in 2009 can be probably counted in the single digits.

Yep, that line in the table could do with a revamp. I'm thinking about it 8-)

Having played with the G1 keyboard, I thought It was terrible. Not worth an 8 for text input speed.

Not sure how you can only give the 3GS only 6 for speed when it's the fastest device I have ever used. Also why the modest score on video recording, it is the same level as all current Nokia devices. In fact their is only one higher rated device in this area & that's the i8910HD as far as I am concerned.

To be honest after using a 5800XM I will never again use an S60 TS device if I can help it. It's an old inefficent OS that shows too clearly it was developed from a non TS OS. As far as TS devices are concerned I will only consider devices with OS X & Android which are much more efficent and specifically designed for TS devices. Like MS are doing with WM7 Symbian for TS needs rebuilding from the ground up.
