unlocking a debranded n95 8gb

Hi guys,

around 6 months ago i debranded my n95 8gb by changing the product code and doing the update using nokia suite. I dont think i changed this code back.

Im looking to get it unlocked, i will probably just take it to one of the usual "we unlock all phones" places and ask them to do it.

1- Will the fact that i have debranded cause any issues whatsoever?

2- do i even need to tell them i have debranded it?

3- should i change the code back before to what it was originally before i ask them to unlock it?

Thanks
Ben

Quite a common misunderstanding / common questions De-Branding and Unlocking are totally unrelated.

For warranty purposes, both de-branding (Firmware) and back-street shop unlocking (Network) invalidate the warranty with Nokia.

I am not sure if Nokia engineers can tell a handset bas been unlocked with a hacking tool or not. However, Nokia most definitely CAN tell if firmware has been de-branded

to answer your questions:-
1. No
2. No
3. Not a good idea - if you change the code back, NSU may attempt to downgrade the firmware next time you use it and 'brick' the handset.

Took my debranded N95 8Gb to my local shop "Dr Unlock" and he did it in minutes. I confessed to debranding it and he said "Yeah I know I can see both the old product codes and the new one you put on." He connected some sort of gizmo in place of the battery that was plugged into a laptop.

My phone is out of contract/warranty so I wasn't really worried. My assumption was the backstreet guys must do that many of them they're not really bothered.
