Wasting my time trying to unlock a T-mobile phone?

I've just bought a semi-new N95 from a chap in Fulham. Great price, excellent condition. And locked to t-mobile. I knew I would never EVER get an unlocked handset for the price i was willing to pay, and i thought t-mobile would be the better option due to the VoIP issue with the vodafone and orange handsets out there. But now it looks like i'm wasting my time with this phone. There's no way t-mobile are going to give or sell a non-subscriber an unlock code, are they? Surely i can't just ring them up and tell them i've bought an N95 off one of their subscribers and i'd like to unlock it so it'll work on another network? It seems like all of these handsets are pretty useless if you're not on the network they're locked to, as these guys aren't ever going to give up the unlock codes!

ps. I did ask the previous owner if he would do it for me, and he said no.

Could anyone offer any advice on whether there are any unlock solutions out there i may have missed? There's some character offering to unlock the phone for £50 (FIFTY QUID!) on ebay. No chance. I'd rather just sell it again than have to wait anywhere from one to three months for an unlock code that i stand a very good chance of being denied in the first place <:S

At the moment it's only the service providers that can supply unlock codes for n95s.

orange unlock their phones for £20
It usually takes about 2 weeks though (apparently)

give t mobile a call and ask, dont give them the imei number though until you are sure they will do it without black marking it.

is there any reason you can't change the product code yourself with the (nemesis?) software and then use the NSU to update the firmware?

should work and unbrand it as well?

de-branding and unlocking are 2 different things

If he wants to unlock his phone to use on any network its going to cost him

If he just wants to put on the latest firmware to enable VOIP and use a Tmobile sim, then he can do it for free using NSS

My phone is branded Vodafone. I bought it off a mate and before I took delivery of it he went into the Vodfone shop he bought it from and they unlocked it free of charge there and then.

My phone is a T-mobile N95 from Phones4U. I changed the product code to EURO1 to upgrade the firmware and my wife's Orange SIM works fine in it - so I assumed that this SIM-unlocked it too.

was the phone network branded from Phones4u ?
did you leave the euro product code or did you change it back?

thats really interesting as i've heard previously debranding isn't unlocking
