I've just heard that there is a new firmware available from Nokia, v4.0623.0.41, that addresses the Bluetooth problem. Yahoo. next stop - Nokia Service Centre this weekend.

marvellous.. where'd you hear that from?

llolslim wrote:marvellous.. where'd you hear that from?

Initially from a developer who's been trying to resolve the Bluetooth issues. he heard it from Nokia. But I then rang up my local Centre and they confirmed the yhad it.

Nice one..

I've just confirmed this with an independent Milton Keynes service centre - it was released yesterday. Unfortunately they aren't open at weekends so I'll have to squeeze a rush trip into my lunch hour next week..🙄

nice one!!

Is there any release notes on exactly what issues V4 resolves?

How much do nokia service centres charge?

Thanks

If phone is under warranty firmware updates are free (well they are in Ireland anyway)

I used to have the impression that with S60 3rd, you wouldn't have to go to a Nokia Service Center. I thougth the system had FOTA (firmware over-the-air). If anyone like me also thought so, I can tell you that unfortunately, it's not so. You still have to take the trip. (I called Nokia Support just now and asked.)

Only with Feature Pack 1 ( http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-s60-3dfp1-en.shtml ) of S60 3rd, there will be FOTA. (But I suppose that will never run on a N80 - not sure.)

If I have it flashed this weekend at a service centre, what should I back up first? Or will they do this themselves? If not whats the best way to back things up, Nokia suite?

just got of the phone to my local service center...They have the V4 firmware. It will be free under warranty to upgrade to the operators version (orange) or 15 to upgrade to the generic version.

May wait for it somebody to post it on here though! lol

Just rang my local Nokia Centre. Although he wasn't sure if they had it, he said that firmwares are distributed to all Nokia Centres at the same time in the UK...... so if one has it, they all have it!

Will be going in tomorrow morning!

You are right.

Yep. I recommend make a backup of your phone and extract your memory card before upgrading firmware.
You will be able to restore all info after flashing your N80.

is anybody thinking of manually upgrading their firmware?
Its just my "local" service centre is not very local and they are not really very good. As for upgrading to generic, i dont hold out much hope 😞
Or is it not possible?
thanks

I've always upgraded firmware by myself and this time isn't gonna be different, try to follow instructions and you won't have problems.

You can download latest EU firmware version for N80 here

If that's all then I'm really disappointed. I have use of the following new features:

- Support for Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 has been added (No
support for DRM)
- Adobe PDF Reader has been added
- FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) pull is enabled in some variants

And I'm looking forward to these bugs being fixed:

- Bluetooth. Improvements to stability of long term connections
- Browser memory usage reduction when browsing many sites
/ Stop browser loading images when memory low
- Fix for memory card missing on soft reset
- USB mass storage class doesn't detach from Apple MAC/Tiger

But I have a list of about 30 other problems which are not addressed in this list from what I can understand. I still hope that that the bugs in the list above will influence the bugs I have. But from experience, I don't have that much hope. The worst bugs left are:

- Too late handover from 3G to GSM in case of bad 3G signal
- Address book sorts on last names first
- The phone doesn't list people I have sent sms's to before
- I can't change labels on contacts (eg. from the phone symbol to the mobile symbol) - I have to remove and re-add
- No support for normal size (= bigger) contact pictures
- Browser don't remember uid and pwd
- Browser can't read wap pages
- Browser has no cache
- Tens of WLAN problems
- Ability to play H.264 files v 1.3
- Too big font in e-mails and no line scroll - only page scroll
- No tag recognition for AAC music files
- No torch function

that megaupload file wants to install some stuff into the Pheonix folder ...
has anyone used it successfully?

My N80 is Orange locked and I bought it off ebay, I have the worrenty but im wondering will I be able to flash it at a nokia centre cos I havent got a receipt.

Thnx
whats the dif between operators version and generic version

When self flashing the firmware on the n80 will operator settings (orange) i.e mms and wap connection details be erased?

tntcoda wrote:When self flashing the firmware on the n80 will operator settings (orange) i.e mms and wap connection details be erased?

Based on my experience from self flashing my 6680, I don't think they will. If however this proves not to be the case you can have them resent to your mobile for free from the Nokia website - http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,77073,00.html

skearon wrote:Just upgraded the firmware without any problems

What Files exactly did you use?

Did it select them automatically for you? If you have succesfully flashed the phone where can I find the Anti virus software. Mines flashed but the anti virus seems to be missing. Also the PDF etc.

Please tell me what files exacty you used. Thanks

flashing as i write this, im scared ;X

*update* flashed successful, real easy, just follow the guide ;]
my calander entry's were all in tact, the date was off, but they were all there, contacts all there, this is still without sim/minisd card inserted.

the follow features i do not see, if anybody can point them out?

- Adobe PDF Reader has been added
- Mobile Search has been added
- Antivirus has been added

i found no such thing, havent tested wmv files yet, and the info from *#0000# is

V 4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (07)

i find the date to be a little odd.

WMV and PDF files are not recognized either, those new features lists are complete shit, does anybody have a real list?

looking at flashing myself..dont like my (not-so) local service centre
However can anyone confirm that bluetooth GPS software works?
I have firmware v3.0614.0.3 which currently works fine with gps.
I don't want to flash yet just incase 😊
Did people upgrade use the megaupload file from this thread with pheonix?
Thanks

Hi guys,
Out of interest what does the 78682635 mean at the front of the downloaded file? I'm guessing EMEA is Europe, middle east and asia so should work perfectly in UK?

Has anyone got any practical reports of improvement yet?

I have generic firmware on an unlocked phone from 02 that i recieved - does this still mean that i'll have to pay 15 to get it upgraded at a SC to generic? If i had an 02 branded firmware what are the disadvantages and can i still use my 3 sim in it until my number is ported ok?
Regards
