I did also look at Asus and Sony Vaio, but H-P I'm staying far away from.

I had an H-P desktop years ago, and that thing was a nightmare, problem after problem. And the customer support was AWFUL. Good customer support for computers is huge, which is one of the reasons I'm looking at a Mac. Apple Care has a great rep.

Apple Care costs extra, but you are nailed on cert to test that reputation for yourself if you are buying macbook.

I have Mac (mini) but keep finding that some or other software I need only runs on Windows so am compelled to stay Windows.

Same thing happens with iPhone, there are Apps that I like that are only available for it, so although I'd like to get rid of it, I would have to lose the apps.

Don't get me wrong, the Macbook is a good machine and at the time (Jan 2009) I bought it it was streets ahead of anything else out there. It's just they do have issues as do any high end machines.

My problem was that I'm doing another degree through the OU and all the software was Windows based. Plus I like to game so there's that too. Previously I just installed Windows 7 on the Mac but the battery life under Windows is awful so I stuck Snow Leopard on it instead (£30 can't complain) and just use it as a browser.

I fancy the new Envy because its build is top notch and whilst the trackpad won't be quite as good as the Mac's it's 95% of the way there and given it's better pretty much everywhere else that's fine.

Where do you see the lag in that video? It responds virtually instantly to everything, definitely nothing that would be irritating. Any problems on the video seem to be down to the user ..... and very possibly not quite final software.

Steve and others: OK I agree that it is not fair to judge the speed of S^3 UI before its release.

That said, its not about speed out of the box. It is slowdowns once you start DOING something. Writing an SMS out of a full library, selecting a music track, moving through folders - and thats where I found that all touch Nokias have failed me. N900 was touted as a champion of speed. In most cases it was. But open two web pages, and it slowed considerably.

The worst part is that top-End Nokias are not much cheaper than ANdroid alternatives. WIth my HTC Desire, I never had to worry about what I had open. It just works and is blazing fast even with a full memory card. Who cares about loyalties when you require an always-on device performing at top speed every time?

With the N8 I already smell a disaster. The phone is not as good as it should be. S^3 'features' are what were already there in phones a year old. And it won't take long to grind to a halt once there is a lot of data.

I'd love to be wrong.

Look at the C6 review - that looks like the music library performance seems to be sorted.

Similarly, I've got an 8gig card with about 6gig of music in it. In the 5230, from the original v11 firmware through to the current v21 firmware - no problems at all.

Future isn't looking too bad for them at all

Watch the video again and open your eyes. First the screenlock fiasco, homescreen transitions and the multitasking part. Just sad.

Are you trying to fool yourself?
Yes, the multitasking in the video you posted seem laggy and the change from vertical to horizontal doesn't work.
Transitions are not existent.

Or, another idea which maybe suits you more: Wait till it's out, don't read any review, reread only Eldar Murtazin "reviews" and base your opinion on those sources.

Well, Nokia S^1 phones lack a great deal on hardware side (read: dumbed down to only necessary specs), where Samsung i8910 is the king HW wise. Now, Samsung doesn't provide Nokia level of support, but i8910 still is a king of S^1 if you can make it work with OVI, QT and import some other Nokia features - you clearly see how Nokia own S^1 phones lag behind i8910 in every way.

So you're basing your opinion on a video thats quite possibly/probably got unfinished software.

Wait until its released, eh? Then comment. Until that point, you're just spouting hot air.
