New Mini on its way / What to do first

Hi all,

I have a new mini from dell on the way ($399) and want suggestions on what to do first, what to get, etc.

I'll tell you a bit about what I have and what I would like. I have AT&T in the USA. I'm hoping I can just swap SIM chips from my Samsung A737/3G and be off and going.

I won't initially have a 16gb SD but will get one when I have to. Most important to me are pop email, browser, tethering (but I see an app to make the phone a hotspot and then use the 3G connection?), and lastly but very important SSH.

I would also like to clean off any uneeded apps, utilities, etc. and install any real 'must have' utilities.

TIA, Jeff

also... screen protector or no?

This will be a pocket phone. I'm pretty easy on screens as my current phone has a hard plastic scrren and I have no scratches after a year.

i am on ATT in the states too using an n97 mini. first you wont have to remove any apps because the n97 mini has a TON of memory on the C drive. it has 256MB so you wont have the same problems that the n97 people have. i install all my apps to eh C drive and still have 200MB free left.

all you have to do is pop in your ATT sim card and offf you go. the phone will set things up for you automatically.

In terms of using the phone as wi fi hotspot, N97 came with Joikuspot Light pre-installed, which I presume will also be present on the mini.

I use Joikuspot quite a lot, it works pretty well in my experience, and connects via 3G or Edge to give your other devices internet connectivity.

THe 'light' version apparently will not work with secure VPN's, apparently won't work with web based email and secure sites like online banking. The Premium version will allow you to do this, and the cost of the Premium version is pretty reaonable I think.

However, if you use a Mac computer, Joikuspot light version works with everything! I had it running with my Mac and no problems with accessing gmail ( sending or receiving ) and online banking.

GOod luck with the mini, hope it works well out of the box!

Screen protector

Anyone have any opinions on the scratch resistance of these? Should I get a screen protector like Ghost Armor?

TIA, Jeff

always use a screen protector even if it's 'scratchproof'

yes i would definitely get a screen protector. after my 5800 getting scratched up just from my finger, i learned my lesson. i still have the factory plastic on the screen for the last month until i order some cheap protectors online.

Just dont remove the stock screen protector your phone comes with. The stock screen protector is good enough
