CJ weighs in on the E72

You may remember my own hard hitting multi-part review of the Nokia E72 a couple of weeks ago here on AAS? If you're after yet more E72 discussion in gory detail then I can recommend Clinton Jeff's mammoth one-piece E72 review, which manages to throw up all sorts of delightful details (e.g. did you know the E72's volume keys were backlit?)

Read on in the full article.

Oh quite so, it's just that I hadn't realised it until CJ mentioned it 8-)

the build quality of the E72 is way lower than on E71! E72 is a cheap copy of the E71 with some improved software and in many cases its less stable than E71 since its FP2!

I'm definitely disappointed when i went to review the E72 since i wanted to upgrade it from my aging E71, I changed my mind it's not worth it, the email client is a joke, the calender is still a joke like it is on the E71 (for a business phone they need to get this straightened out quick), same with contact client-though my only issue with contact client is that it doest search by company name otherwise its one of the best assets of the whole E-series lineup with the quick search from home screen but that's a carry over from the E71.

Overall the E72 is nice for people used to cheaper devices and maybe it leaves Blackberrys in the dust but not current E71 owners, its just not worth it since its not really an upgrade-i see it more of a downgrade if i'm getting a lower quality device even.

Sorry I'm fed up with Nokia, they have lost touch with their consumers the past few years. My next phone will be the iphone 4G that's supposably coming out in April or May with 2GHz dual-core ARM-processor and many improved goodies and simply adding multitasking to the current 3GS i'm sold.

bye bye Nokia -the General Motors of the phone industry.

Build quality

I've seen many posts saying that the E72's build quality is not up to the E71. So I took a trip to my local AT&T store and compared my E72 to an in store display E71x. The only thing I found inferior was the fit of the battery cover. Maybe I didn't compare long enough but that was my impression.....

Spend most of my day issuing E71's to our users, so it made a change when i found 18 E72's on my desk instead. So far i like the new version (of essentially the same phone). I'll throw MfE 2.7 on one of them over the weekend (i steer clear of 2.9) and see how it works.

Edit: Didn't get very far with MfE 2.7, it wouldn't install. Turns out it's not supposed to, as the E72 has its own version. So i used the preloaded MfE, i like it. Better UI, layout, wizard, and subfolder support! I can stop asking my employers to buy Roadsync.
