Just stopped by at Carphone Warehouse to look at an N97 mini. I was VERY impressed.

Confirmed on my N97 mini, you get a choice of handwriting recognition or T9 without the keyboard out. I'm enjoying my mini, as an upgrade to the 5800, similar to the 5800 better build quality, camera and it has a keyboard.

eenie, meenie, minie, mo

I had an N97 and loved it, untill I dropped it in a canal......

Now I want to replace it.

Comparing the two models in a Nokia shop today. To me there seemed to be very little difference in physical size, not enough to worry about.

The shop was selling them for the same price, and there only seem to be £30-£40 difference when looking on the web.

Looking forward to the full review to see if there is anything that will make me choose the mini over the original.

Maybe when colour e-ink appears on the market, but then you won't be able to see it in the dark.....the perfect screen isn't out yet.
If you have a 5800 and think the screen is usable in sunlight I wonder if you really go out anytime Or what do you "use" your phone for

I too have a 5800 and in sunlight is the worst phone I have ever had. I tried to use it mounted on the handlebar of my bike as a GPS and it's almost impossible to see anything. Maybe it's because os geographical questions (I live in Spain).. but just have a look at the article Steve wrote here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/featu...n_my_phone.php

and search for the 5800 screen capture in sunlight..

To be honest, if superb visibility in sunlight is really important to you then I'd almost recommend going back to S60 3rd Edition and the N95 8GB or N96, both of which are super in sun.

Or get an iPhone [FX: ducks]

Yes, I agree with you on the S60v3.. but I just bought the 5800 unlocked some months ago and I'm not going to buy another phone until this one breaks apart.

If I had to choose again I will probably go for a black N82.. or maybe an E52 because I prefer monoblock form factor instead of sliders.

Last month I was about to buy a used N95 to a relative because he had just changed to 5800, but a week after having tried it he told me he was back to the N95 .. go figure
