Question v12 Firmware - Battery draw?

Something that seems to have occured after the v12 firmware upgrade is that my battery life is cut to about half !

I now have to recharge in the middle of the day.

Is anyone else seeing a worsing of the battery life after the v12 firmware update?

I thought a few times that the battery was lasting really well then, after an inevitable reboot, the meter dropped several bars.

I'm just wondering if the new firmware is managing to make the battery bar to be more accurate, rather than shortening the actual battery life.

I've noticed since the v12 firmware upgrade that my N97 runs a little hotter both in my pocket and out.

I suspect that they've "tweaked" the home screen to update more frequently than it used to and possibly decreased the cycle time to poll the lock switch and touchscreen. Yes, it responds a little faster but at the expense of battery life.

I really did like having all that live information on the home screen all day long, but now I may have to reconsider.

I had an issue with version 11 not sure if it is related, haven't tried it on 12, but if I turned my phone off at night and charged it at the wall. Then in the morning when the alarm clock turned on my phone, it wouldn't accurately show the battery life untill I restarted the phone again, ie it still had one bar remaining.

Since I moved to v12 my battery life seems to be better... although perhaps that is just the battery meter misreading!

I seem to have pretty reasonable life out of my battery, a hard day or two light days. I usually trickle charge via the USB connection to a PC.

An update...

Charged my phone for SEVEN hours last night.

It did not ever get to where it said it was completely charged!

Decided to reboot (I'd already rebooted once since the v12 firmware upgrade).

Now it seems to be behaving (i.e. it isn't running hot in my pocket or sitting out on the desk).

Somehow I think that there was some process that was going on in the background causing a continual battery drain.

I wish there were some tools that would allow for CPU process & thread monitoring--telling CPU% usage of each.

There is an app that allows you to monitor battery drain, I had it on my N95, but I'm not sure if it works with S60 5th Ed. Can't remember the name of it though.

Edit: It's called Nokia Energy Profiler and is available for 5th Ed, here is a link:

Nokia Energy Profiler...

WOW!!!

I didn't know that this program existed.

You have to be registered in the Nokia Developers Forum (which I was for the Nokia 9300) to be able to download it.

At rest my N97 is drawing 0.95 W (display active) and it tells me my battery status -3.98V.
You can see the little spikes here and there as the system runs the various tasks and automatic mail pulls.

What a Super App!

I'm impressed that it even has INSTRUCTIONS inside it on how to use.

Thanks XE^6!

Yeah, the energy profiler is good.

This is another app apparently due in September that might also be useful:

The "time remaining" view would be useful (if it's accurate).

I had a battery problem on v11. When the battery was so low the phone had died, and I charged the phone, after only a few minutes the phone would display full battery. This would remain at full for half an hour or so once disconnected, and then suddenly the phone wold die again. So I don't think this issue is specific to v12.
