28 new games added to Ovi Store

Another new batch of games has appeared in Ovi Store, the full list is below. (Incidentally, if anyone from Nokia is reading this, could you please take a look at the Ovi Store servers and find out why some games are constantly appearing and disappearing!) Anyway, on with the new games, you can see them listed below in alphabetical order. Most of the new games seem to be from the publisher Playfon, who seem to be making their Ovi Store debut.

Maybe Ovigaming can devide the titles in ovistore into Java and Symbian...

I don't really like Java games, and there are too many java games...

So does the reviews... and I'd like to see more titles such as panda mania or chicken panic etc on ovi store.

These are really "Nokia's games", there are too many cheap java titles (I agree some of them are really good)

To address your point about marking the games as S60 or Java, the problem is that some Ovi publishers release games on both formats under the same name, so that people who download the game with an S60 phone get the Symbian version while those who download with a Series 40 phone get the Java version. It's very difficult to know who will get which version.

Ovi Store is not just for S60 phones, it's also available for most Series 40 phones too, so there are going to be a lot of Ovi Store users getting the Java versions of games. Also many publishers may only publish Java versions, perhaps because they don't see the point of doing a separate Symbian version.

I agree that for the most graphically intensive games (such as ONE, System Rush etc) they have to be native Symbian applications in order to run properly. You couldn't do cutting edge graphics on Java, it would have to be on Symbian.

But for the less hardware-intensive stuff like 2D games or simple 3D, Java is now just as good as a native application, and modern Symbian phones have enough spare RAM to cope with the larger amount of RAM that Java games tend to take up.

I used to hate Java games because they were generally much poorer quality with very jerky animation and very low resolution, but well-made modern Java games are actually pretty good. As I often mention, the Java game Sola Rola really opened my eyes to what was possible, and I've shown Java a lot more respect since then.

If you want a particular game on Ovi Store, find out who publishes it and write to the publisher saying they should put the game on Ovi Store.

Nokia has no control at all over the people who publish games, all that Nokia does is provide the sales channel (Ovi Store). It's entirely up to the third party publishers whether they put their games on Ovi Store.

Neilhoskins, you don't need to get the client from download, you can get it from the store.ovi.com website on your phone's browser:

I haven't had any RAM problems with Opera Mini or other java apps on recent S60 phones, the newest models have a lot of spare RAM to play with.

But yes native apps are always the most efficient way of running apps, and it would be nice to see more stuff written directly for S60. I suspect we will see more native Symbian apps as S60 phones get cheaper and more mass market.

Neilhoskins, it may not work on all phones in all countries, AFAIK Ovi Store is still in its "soft launch" with rollout happening a bit at a time. Which phone model are you using?

There are some troubles with the publishing servers where some games are disappearing from the index, that may be holding them back from a full publicised launch.
