Failed to open Outlook
I've just got my A1000 and installed the desktop suite with no problems but when I try and Sync I get "Failed to connect to outlook" and the Sync messages :
The Calender syncronisation failed. The error returned was 0x1.
The Contacts syncronisation failed. The error returned was 0x1.
Your Email synchronisation completed successfully
Anyone got any ideas? If I can't sync my contacts then I can't use the phone.
I have WinXP SP2 and Outlook 2003

A1000
I am in the same position with an A1000 - "failed to open outlook" when I try to synch. Have tried reinstalling all to no effect. I think its something to do with the profilr of Outlook. Have you had a fix yet?

I also have this exact problem.
tried alsorts to sort it out but nothing seems to work.
i did read somewhere on the MANY forums i've visited to try and sort this that, outlook should bring up a window and ask if it is ok to open.
some built in security measure in outlook that no outside / 3rd party program can open it without your permission.
but it has never asked and i have no idea where to disable it.
it appears to be an outlook problem not a motorola problem......

Arghhhh!!!
i came to this forum looking for an answer, not others with the same problem.
Has anyone worked it out yet?
i upgraded from an A920 to A1000 (with 3) and had been sucessfully using the synch with Outlook on my old phone. I "partially" suceeded in my first synch but when i try to go back to synch all my contacts, i get a message "the error returned was 0x80020009". It comes up after it has "searched the databases, both on the phone and in outlook". I too have re-installed the software all to no avail. The same error comes up.
can anyone help?

Synch problems - A1000
Hi Michael,
i had already downloaded this "updated" version with the same results. The symptoms are as follows:
i can succesfully connect the phone to the PC
I can sucessfully synch e-mail, calendar and tasks
When i synch my contacts, the process sucesfully adds 44 contacts to my phone but then "crashes". If i remove a contact from my phone, the sych process recognises this, adds the 1 contact back and then "crashes"! Could it be that my Outlook contacts folder is in some way corrupted? the irony is that my old A920 synched over 2500 contacts without any trouble from the same Outlook contacts database.
Any thoughts?
Jan

Outlook
Hi Jan,
Can't say I have tried to sync that many contacts.
I would think you are right that Outlook has corrupted the file.
What form of connection are you using, USB1.1, USB2.0 or Bluetooth?
I know I had a lot of problems moving large files over USB1.1, the connection would time out. eg mp3's.
I use a Bluetooth dongle myself, but if the files are large I move them using a card reader.
Maybe try adding them a folder at a time to the phone rather then the whole database at once.
Regards
Michael

Try changing the Desktop Suite Sync Settings to point to the actual Outlook folder instead of using the "(Default <target> Folder)". Goto Desktop Suite->Settings->Sync->Configure->Microsoft Outlook.
It might be that some Microsoft patch caused Desktop Suite's access to Outlook APIs to be blocked and the Default profile used is now not pointing to the right thing.
Just an idea.

Solution to failed to open outlook with nokia pcsuite found
I started having this problem since installing Nokia pcsuite v6.7. I had a number of cracks at things like reinstalling pcsuite to no avail. With v6.7 you never get the outlook security warning come up. There must be a problem with how the software attempts to access outlook. In the end I uninstalled and went back to the original cd with my nokia 9500 which had pcsuite v6.2 and it WORKED! When it when to sync the outlook security dialogue came up asking to allow access for x minutes, then hitting OK and it sync'd fine. To overcome this get express click yes - a great little freebee utility http://www.webattack.com/get/clickyes.html
Of course nokia have never bothered to work out the daylight savings issue with the calendar, even though they've known about the problem for two years. So that makes the calendar a bit useless for half the year, but at least I can sync my contacts. Seems Nokia in release v6.7 of pcsuite have taken a step backwards so that you cannot sync at all!
For a major phone manufacturer to release such crap syncing software is unbelieveable.

Found a solution to "failed to open outlook"
Solution for the A1000 failed to open outlook error.
Go to Tools/Options/Security
Change Zone from Restricted to Internet
I did this after a removal and reinstall of Outlook 2003
Also was able to sync straight away to Outlook 2000
Hope this helps - apologies if it doesn't.
