The red light is on (as a legal requirement in some countries) to prevent the user recording subjects ithout their knowledge/permission.
Why do you need to disable the light?

Because when I'm recording in the dark it has a light red hue in the video, also if if there is a way to leave the LED on while I recorded would be great too

The simplest solution is black PVC tape over the LED.
Any other method involves modifying the hardware, invalidating the warranty.

Blu tak works well also, had to use this as when recording if there was glass or other reflective subject nearby the light would show on the video.

problem is of course, that covering it up takes time you don't have if the kids are doing something cute...
and having pre covered means no flash on the camera...
i'd like to have it available for stills and off for video without any hardware mods (in an ideal world).
course, we don't live in an ideal world, and i rather like my n95 so I'll cope

...or you could just cover it with a finger when you're recording video...
