Nokia Prototype Mystery...

Hi all on here..
I purchased a N95 the other day and the transaction went in seconds.. After using the phone I realised that it had been knocked about due to scratches chips etc.. on top of that I was informed it was unlocked.. it was still branded with the 3 network. Anyway any app installing to the phone would fail.. All apps on the phone would run so slow or even make the phone crash. When I used the updat software it informed me that I was using firmware version 1.1?? & the latest available was 21.0.016. When it tried to udate the firmware the phone would reset and I would be informed the update failed. When I removed the battery to see my IMEI number it was then when I recieved a shock.. THERE WASNT ONE!! But I did notice the following lines..

Not For Sale
Property Of Nokia
Nokia Prototype

I took it to my local Nokia dealer and they told me it was safe to use but were curious to where it came from. In my deal all I recieved was the phone.. charger.. and data cable.
Anyway they flashed it with 21.0.016 and replaced the covers so it now looks mint.. £35 in total..
Now it works quick and how it should work.. apart from one thing..
When I use Nokia Maps as soon as I zoom in just after clicking I find the picture is so bad to view.. all blocky.. it does connect to my wireless router but it still shows all maps as blocky. Have had a N95 before and I didnt get this problem.. Any ideas anyone? or any views on this post?
Richard

Ask for your money back as you were clearly misled.

If the seller refuses, and you paid via Credit Card raise a chargeback with your CC company then return the handset to the seller via recorded delivery.

The problem I still have with your Prototype is that NSU will probably never be able to update the Firmware when a new version is released.
It is debatable whether changing the product code with NSS will work on a prototype, and in any event, changing product code invalidates your warranty.

Glad you are now happy with the Proto, but I would prefer a full production model myself.

I don't imagine that it has a warranty, being a prototype that's not meant to be sold

Right. There's no under-warranty repairs for prototypes (actually, I don't think a Nokia repair center will repair them at all, and especially if it is not intended for resale and marked as Nokia property...).

GRIM REAPER will become famous soon enough
I just got this reply on the Nokia discussions forum.

"All prototypes remain the property of Nokia, and no individual has any right to sell them. Anybody who buys such a device is effectively handling stolen property. "
